New Log, New Season.. but my passion and drive remains the same.
My last Log finished at the end of my 2020 prep and this is essentially the beginning of my transition into a gaining phase and the 2021 competitive season. You can take a look back through my old Logs in the ‘Archived’ section for anyone interested in catching up.

I’m sure most of you know me by now and my history, but a brief overview:

I have 2 daughters, work as a PT/Sports Massage Therapist and have been competing since April 2013 as a Figure athlete. I’ve had a few regional wins, became British Champion during that time and had some top placings at International shows and have so far narrowly missed out on my Pro Card. My main goals are to continuously improve and to do this for as long as I still have a genuine passion and love for it. A Pro Card is still something I will work as hard as I can for, but I’ve also learnt not to put too much pressure on myself. I’m a very competitive person and I know that expectation can sometimes mask the enjoyment of the process.

I’ll be continuing to work closely with Jordan as my coach throughout this next phase, with the additional ongoing support from Corinne and would love for you all to follow along with me.. interact.. ask questions.. share your thoughts.. introduce yourselves..

My Instagram page is @ClareBarksPT , I’ll post most of my progress pictures here if want to follow along on there too.

I last stepped on stage on October 3rd 2020, placing second at the 2Bros Ben Weider. I was hoping to compete again Internationally at the end of November 2020, but the complications of covid, lockdowns, quarantines etc. etc. put a stop to everything and I came out of my prolonged prep two weeks ago. I had been coasting up until that point ready to go again, but now I am primed and set to dive properly into to an off season. I’m currently up 3kg from my last stage weight, feeling a lot healthier, more energised and excited to progress my training and make some much needed improvements… but of course we still have to wait now for gyms to re-open as we’ve been forced into this nightmare of a second Lockdown! so although not ideal, I’m beginning this off season training with the equipment I have at home itching and raring to go when I can finally get back into a gym!

Back and Biceps today in the Lockdown garage. Second week training at home, so the second time following this workout and everything progressed. I’m feeling positive and know this shouldn’t last for too much longer, so I’m determined to make the most of what I can control right now with what’s available to me.

    T-Bar Row – 1 set 8-10, 1 set 11-15
BB Meadows Row – 1 set 10-12 each side into partials to failure
Seated Dumbbell Rear Delt Flyes – 1 rest pause set
    BB Shrugs – 1 set 15-20
Dual Cable Curl – facing the cable standing back, fail on about 10, step into the machine on a step, fail, face away from the machine, fail –2 sets

Been a very busy couple of weeks, but it’s all paying off and what started off to be a disastrous day dropping my beloved Salted Caramel Cream of Rice tub all over my kitchen floor ended up to be a pretty good one 🙂

Another business meeting this morning has finalised and secured transitioning my Personal Training Business over to a brand new facility to begin working from once Boris gives the Gyms the go ahead to re-open. Some existing clients will come over, but I’ll also be looking to fill my books again with new faces, ready to kick ass and make a change.. So if you’re in and around the Bournemouth/Poole area and looking for a decent PT.. I’m your girl!

Checked in with Jordan today. I’m still hovering around 3kg up from my last stage weight. Condition is still good and strength is creeping up.. although difficult to gauge properly during this lockdown training at home malarkey, but I feel a lot stronger and healthier, so I’m very excited to be able to progress with standardised movements and equipment through consistent gym training moving forward.

    No changes to diet yet.

Today was Legs B. All good.

    Standing ham curl – 1 set 7-8, 1 set 10-12
BB SLDL – 1 set 7-8, 1 set 10-12, straight into BW Nordic curls to failure
    Glute bridge – 1 set 7-8, 1 set 10-12
    BB Good morning – 1 set 10-12
    Walking Lunges – 1 set 16-20
    Weighted Sissy Squat – 2 sets 10-12
    Leg extension – 1 set 8-9, 1 set 10-12 reps
    Leg raises – rest pause
Standing calf raise – rest pause.

Delts and Arms today (Lockdown Garage workout!).. I can feel my strength eeking up slowly now and I’m so ready to get back in the gym and progress this gaining phase.

Once the initial post show/prep feeling has passed, calories go in and output is reduced, my mindset switches away from finding new lines and getting freakier condition, to getting excited to attack training again.. fully energised, feeling solid, healthy, fully focused and being nervous by my log book again. I LOVE both phases, yet both give me different challenges and different aspects I thrive off.

Single arm DB preacher curl – 1 set 8-9, 1 set 10-12 take 5 breaths, fail again
Dual cable curl – rest pause
    DB Seated side raise – 1 set 9-10, 1 set 7-8, 1 set 12-15
    High Incline BB press – 1 set 6-7, 1 set 8-10
High Incline DB press – 2 sets 8-10
Single arm cable cuff side raise – 2 sets 12-15, Last set superset with standing Single arm DB side raise to failure
Narrow grip machine press – 1 set 6-7, 1 set 8-10, straight into tricep rope pushdown to failure
    Pec Dec – 1 set 10-12
Abs, rope crunch – 2 sets of 8-12 reps.

How exciting! As a Dorchester girl I’d love to have a couple of one off sessions with you if that’s something you’ll be offering.
