I agree with Louis here. From a recovery standpoint ensure you are in calorie surplus and increase your protein intake from what it is currently to further aid recovery process

    Thanks Marc

Hey Matt, I would suggest taking advice from the surgeon in terms of rest. I wouldn’t train any earlier than expected. You’ll likely be totally off training for some time and then probably be able to do some lower body training. I would avoid doing anything upper body could potentially put your bicep in danger until your surgeon has approved doing so.

    Thanks Louis

Hi Matt when did the injury occur and is your operation on the NHS?

I’ve overseen my own and multiple others recovery from distal bicep surgery with great success so I will drop my rehab plan below. It will be a cut and paste job and it was originally intended for strongmen/rugby players but it should give you an idea of the stages…

    Hi Adam,

Thanks for the update and interesting to read your recovery plan.

The injury occurred 21st October and my surgery was done on the 28th November on the NHS.

Unfortunately there was quite a long delay in getting referral and the ultrasound sound diagnosis with orthopaedics, so I advised surgery would need to happen now to avoid any further complications.

I’m currently 2 weeks post surgery as of today, my cast was removed on Monday and I have been fitted with a fixed arm brace.

The brace allows me to get maximum 30 degrees extension to full flexion of the bicep.

Did you use a brace during your recovery process?
