I’ve been to uni and have a degree in strength and conditioning. Does it directly help me with my current job? I would say yes, from a knowledge perspective but also because uni also taught me how to study and read properly, how to take in information and also how to be critical – ie, not to just believe everything I read. I question things and give opposite thoughts, a devils advocate you could say. Objective thinking…
Did I need my degree to do what I do today. Absolutely not. I did not NEED it at all.
Before coaching fully online I was an in person PT – so technically the only qualifications I’ve ever NEEDED for my line of work were level 2 and 3 personal training quals so I could get insured.
To be an online coach you don’t need any qualifications at all (I think this needs to be regulated but that’s a whole other conversation)…
If you’re passionate about helping people and happy to self study and learning on your own accord then you can indeed self teach (paid courses/seminars/mentors, free content, YouTube, following industry professionals etc) and you could start that now… (you could also do this alongside uni if you choose that path)
If you are passionate about wanting a degree and further depth into a certain areas then you could go to uni. I don’t think you NEED it. It’s more about what you want.
Uni certainly helped me develop as a person and a Critical thinker. And I’m deffo glad I did it.
So, I don’t really want to give a solid answer to your question of what I think you should do as it’s not my place. But, you can take my experience and thoughts and form your own from that.

, i dont think college is a must , but it defo doesnt hurt , just depends how much it will cost?
road map wise to how this looks , you are defo going to need to build a really decent physique of your own and get pretty strong , to get any eyes on you
that coupled with a real willingness to help people and a crazy desire to learn from everyone and anyone and you will build a very successful career in the industry
if its your passion it will honestly be easy

first bud hit the search button – there are several threads on this with loads of great information.
I would focus n building a great physique and competing yourself to a high standard as you want to work with bodybuilders showing you can and have walked the walk is vital IMO.
Work with 1-2 very good coaches, learn what they do and the service they provide so you can see what you need to deliver and learn from these people.
Invest in some solid education – college, university and some well respected courses. This IMO is vital if you want to have a long successful career. Way to many people out there trying to just blag what other coaches have had them do with little to 0 understanding of what is actually going on in the body and it does make all the difference IME both in terms of results and client retention.

dr mike israetel on renaissance periodization put out a good youtube video on this topic not too long ago on different form tweaks and cues to further work the tricep but like they all said, chest involvement is inevitable

i saw that too and found it very ignorant, trainibg like jp can be extremely effective and safe if you know your limits and when you let your foot off the gas. but yeah if you go in the gym and try to emulate jps numbers without accounting for the years of consistency and hard work he’s put into them you will tear something overall though i feel the jp style of training to be the best

I would suggest taking 3-4 days complete rest away from the gym, then go back in and run a full rotation and see how it goes. If you still feel that some movements aren’t feeling good, then I definitely think it’s worth switching them out for something similar.
Having said that though, I notice you’ve also posted in another thread that you think your training sessions are feeling too long and that by the end you feel mentally and physically exhausted, so it may just be that what you’re currently doing is too much for you to recover from and as a result it’s affecting your progress. Knocking off some volume could be the answer.

hey rich! after looking at your last few workouts i was wondering how you performed an adductor bias leg press, as i wish to bring up my adductors and my gym lacks a traditional machine. at the moment i am using a cable and extending at the hip as i know the adductor works in hip extension, i pause at the top and bring the eccentric down slow, i’ve been doing this as one set in rest pause fashion to fatigue the adductor, i do feel it works but was wondering if you believe it is optimal for my circumstances and was wondering if an “adductor bias leg press” would be better and how you went about performing the exercise

Hey – if arms are an area that you need
To bring up obviously a little more volume around them would be ideal – doing triceps on your push day and biceps the pull is great.
Why don’t you also end your leg sessions with an exercise for both too. This way it won’t affect your session and you’ll definitely have enough in you to do your arms.

This is very hard to write as I think John is an absolute legend and an amazing human, however that isnt the best exercise . Meh , I probably should just lie and say it’s awesome because of how fucking awesome John is , but ye I can’t see a use for it personally
