Thank you for the heads up and the invite mate that’s very kind of you, I’d love to come along but I’m a full time dad with my 1 year old just now so I can’t commit. Wish I lived closer to it all, I see extreme have just opened a new gym in East Kilbride it looks unreal!

    Cheers mate

Alcohol causes dehydration, it’s a diuretic that works by inhibiting ADH (anti diuretic hormone) one of the most vascular times I’ve ever been in my life was the first time I got drunk post show.

There are a multitude of ways to peak for a show, alcohol certainly wouldn’t be one I use or recommend people to use, unpredictable for sure, that said I do still know of plenty people who drink the night before or day of a show, might just be atypical Scottish behaviour though ????

I’ve seen this at the Scottish shows! Think it was Avril and Gary Keith used to swear by brandy and orange on the day of the show and the got weeman pissed on his first show – he did look insane though so maybe there’s something in it! [/quote]

Weeman had me drinking bottles of bud on the morning of my first show before I went on stage, not sure what it done, I won right enough ????

The combo of strong alcohol and sugar could be effective, diuretic effect, carb up and as hilly mentioned calming effect which is a major issue backstage.

It’s very much a broscience thing as you’ve no idea how someone will react to it but that’s not to say it can’t work.

That’s took me right back down memory lane seeing those names there mate, a FB memory popped up the other day of Weeman, Ser, Abdul and I down at Nabba uni around 10 years ago, good times.

Lol fair play man, I think I’d probably fall over if I drank before a show lmao

There used to be a really good Scottish scene with those guys, that was around the time I was travelling to watch the shows, the nabba Scottish was always a big deal but it’s not the same anymore. Nice to see another Scottish lad on here, I’m up in Inverness, not much of a bodybuilding scene up here sadly, we do have one local show which is the ibfa highland show which I won a few years ago. I always wonder what those guys are doing now and wether they still train? Gary K and weeman etc…

    Its an electrolyte balance

    Very easy to fix

    Track and then adjust

Sodium is probably sky high…..and potassium is probably non existent…..

Would something like MyFitnessPal be ok to track with? And what kind of foods would you advise for potassium?

Hello mate what kind of hernia surgery did you have? I had an umbilical repair around 7 or 8 years ago. I remember being in pain for 2 days after the op and then taking it really easy for a while after. Think I was back in the gym after 6 weeks but I had a set of light dumbbells at home and would do some upper body stuff when I felt up to it.

Good luck with the recovery and don’t rush it, you’ll be through it in no time.
Btw I thought your video was very good, I stole a few ideas from it and found your explanations spot on. That gym looks wicked and the dumbbells look too nice to use!

Hey bud. I had open hernia surgery on an inguinal hernia. I’m walking pretty well now. 9 days post surgery. I feel I’m improving everyday quite quickly. Just get really tired easily and it aches. I’ve thought about getting some light dumbbells out tbh but not sure that will satisfy me so may leave it until I can hit the gym.

Ah right wicked mate. Thanks for the feedback glad you’ve made use of some stuff from it too yeah m10 is awesome you should try and get there if your ever in the east Midlands area. Thanks again mate.

Sounds like your body needs the rest. I’ll be keen to see how you adapt your training when you get back to it, obviously heavy loads will be out for a while but high rep stuff should see you right and maintain what you’ve got.

    Good luck mate. Cheers

    What about potassium intake?

    Calcium ?

    Magnesium ?

Sodium is just one piece of the puzzle.

If there’s an imbalance with electrolytes the kidneys will flush to try maintain homeostasis

    Hello doc

In all honesty I’m not tracking my food at present so I have no idea on these numbers.

Thank you for the replies folks, I have nailed it down to too much caffeine on my training days – I was taking a coffee with meal 1 then my pre workout. I ditched the coffee this morning and had a nootropic based pre workout and I’m fine today. I’ve also eaten a bit more food which seems to have helped.

I got 3 pbs today as well so it must have done the trick!

I would say in terms of digestion and eating foods that agree with your gut that this is a good approach and probably one utilised by golden era bodybuilders before macro counting was even a thing. I think it falls apart when you are trying to push past weight plateaus and get much bigger and force feeding is required.

I take pink salt on most meals and always in my intra workout drink. Is there something else I should be taking you think?

I try and take a litre of water pre training as I train 1st thing. Then another litre with my intra.

Stop doing it? Don’t do any exercises that feel dangerous despite who tells you to do it. There are many ways to skin a cat mate and there are a hundred ways to effectively and safely train hams. Why don’t you try some activation or pre exhaust and then do some lighter deadlifts?
