Yes you can do that , having a pressing movement first is not a must & has in fact not worked for a few people who struggle to connect with their chest . So sometimes using a pec dec and challenging the chest in the short range has worked best by potentiating the chest & preparing it for the press that follows .

Others can correct me if I’m wrongful however if I wanted to make chest a priority I would be placing my push day after my rest day in my schedule. I would also have my chest pressing as my first pressing movement on at least one of the days if not both. Just my 2 cents though.

Curious if you changed Rob’s training at all? Watching his videos he appears to subscribe to a high volume high frequency methodology, did you have him reduce the volume/frequency at all or keep as is and just manipulate the variables previously mentioned.

Have you ever followed the same type of split that Rob and Jamie follow (each muscle group 2x/wk and 2x/day workouts)?
Btw I haven’t followed them long enough to know whether they follow that same split in the off season or if it’s only a pre-contest thing, perhaps you can elaborate more on it.
