Hi @samking104 – firstly thank you for reading my log and secondly for taking the time to write. It means more than you can imagine.
Yeah it’s a bummer, as one if my goals this year was to travel to the UK ??, train in some of the gyms I see on instagram every day (UltraFlex, Kings..) but I’ll get there. Hopefully Halloween time.
Thank you- I really and truly have prep goggles on at the moment and it’s killing me every day. I just need to stop being so critical of myself. But then again, I like to be critical of myself because we all have flaws, things we need to improve on, and I think ignoring those things is just plain ignorant. Anyways, that why I have Corinne- she knows well what to do and when to do it. So I just to listen. Keep on doing what I’m doing and tick every box, every day.
It’s difficult that’s for sure. But I’m making it work. If gyms opened earlier here, I would most DEFINITELY be on the early morning training team. I used to do it at university. But my work day is 7:30/8am to 5:00/5:30pm so I just have to train in the evenings on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Don’t get me wrong, I still get anxious about getting all my meals in at work, and my steps throughout the day. Colleagues questioning what I’m doing etc. It doesn’t make sense to “muggles” as I call them (wow I’m horrible ?)
I don’t mind you asking at all Sam, as I’m actually very open about my mental health struggles. If I can ever impart any happiness into someone else’s life, or make at least 1 person smile every day then I feel like I’ve done my job. Lol whatever that job is I don’t know.
I’ve had depression and anxiety since I was 15. Not airy fairy “oh this kid is troubled..” I have a clinically diagnosed chemical imbalance. I was on medication for for years, but decided to stop when I was ~20/21y/o as I hat didn’t want to rely on a pill to make me happy anymore.
I’m sorry to hear about your mom, and that you had to care for her. I sympathise as I have had to care for my father too, since I was 11/12y/o. Running the farm, going to school, keeping a job while he was ill. And he goes through episodes too, so every now and again I just have to drop whatever is going on in life to help. I feel like it’s helped me become the person I am today too. A much stronger person who’s able to make more informed decisions and judge things clearly that are in front of me when facing adversity/a challenge. (Apart from making informed decisions about my physique ?)

Heya. No need to thank me, absolute pleasure ☺️

Exactly. Travel restrictions may change but equally could go topsy turvey again. Whatever the state of things, we grumble a bit and then adapt. For many it is that uncertainty, but you will visit and see what we lovely folk have to offer.

This is exactly why I work with Corinne. No second guessing, no ego boosts – just raw and honest feedback every time. Just follow the plan and execute, it’s pretty simple really.

Haha nobody bats an eyelid anymore when I had stacks of Tupperware on my desk. Many were curious when I competed last year. I’m not one for giving advice or judging mind. You want to go out and get plastered at the weekend, cool. If you have 5 coffees within an hour of starting work, cool. In their eyes I’m the strange one not eating the snacks laid about or indulging in pizza if bought by management. Apologies as I’m sure I read it before, but what do you do as a living? I saw from a forum post of toying with being a coach.

Thanks for the background. An interesting read and that resonates with me. Fortunately for myself, I haven’t suffered personally from anything. Just cloudy days here and there, but that’s generally when I run myself into the ground I.e. bed at 10, then up at 4 to train. Really grinds you down quick. I guess you could say and have likely acknowledged training is your therapy, your medication of choice so to speak?

Again, I think we both agree it has made us the individuals we are today and still had an enjoyable childhood. We didn’t have things, but we had love and that’s way more precious to me than the latest action man or Furby ever was.

Looking surreal my man. When the lower dials in and yo fat ass is shredded, gonna be some real damage done. Enjoy fat glutes as you’ll miss them when shredded and sitting down. Few questions for you mate:
    1. Can see squats are not in so I’m guessing at this stage, no point in introducing them back in pre contest due to the risk/reward. With the deadlift, how close to the show do you reckon you’ll keep them in or just a case of evaluating as you go along? Didn’t know whether you had a rough plan. Likely not to be in the last couple of weeks ?
    2. How do you approach clients who are evidently not following the plan, but are insistent they are? A tricky area for a coach. On the back of that, how you handle client break ups?
    3. Would you rather wear Kuba’s unwashed soiled (sweaty, not shit himself but does include socks and underwear) gym gear after a Cybex session for two weeks or the full typical female IG wannabe getup for a year – talking full in tight leggings giving you a male camel toe and you have to be adamant this is your choice.

Hey Sam, thank you very much for following along!
1 – Yep, better quad moves are leg press/hack at the moment, no need for the squat which arguably doesn’t challenge the quads as effectively. – Deadlifts will be in all the way, until the very last sessions.
2 – I will be totally honest with every client but it’s rare that someone in my team doesn’t follow the plan as they are very likeminded ( not always had clients like that ) I will literally tell them they are wasting their time & money if they continue to not adhere. In terms of clients leaving again I have very good retention & most only leave due to either 1 – going assisted or 2 – financially not in a place to continue.
    3 – Odd question. Defo Kuba’s. [/quote]
Cheers for the responses my man. Obviously you are and have been in a position for a long while to be selective about who you are going to coach. Plus, you’re not taking on more than you can handle or being greedy. Just the amount of coaches I have spoken to in the past complaining about ‘xyz’ and just taking the money to a) financially get by and b) seem more popular by the numbers they have on their books and seem in demand.

Not the worst choice of movement and alleviates shoulder stress. I’d favour a slight decline, like a notch below flat, as I see some people at such a steep angle it’s ridiculous. The blood rush to their head and ROM is poor as a result. Besides, being nearly upside down and blood rushing to your head + all out exertion is not favourable as may black out if not careful haha.

A form of casein protein will be your best option with some fats. Typically Greek yogurt, whey and nut butter/dark chocolate. Noticed you prefer not to add fats, any particular reason for that as the combination of a slow released protein and fats to slow it further are ideal?
Also, couldn’t help but notice a 12 hour gap. Guessing sleep and a bit of fasting?

Hey Kate. Thought I’d drop in and say hi ☺️
Real bummer about the posing class, but guess we should be used to disappointments this year eh? Not that makes it any better, but definitely the year of resilience. Still, you have acted fast and made alternative arrangements rather than wallow so love that determination. Always an alternative.

Have to say looking absolutely superb. Posterior chain is denser, shoulders even more capped and a fabulous flow.
Working and comp prep are not fun in the slightest. Generally, that’s why I train first thing so if work need me to stay on, no prob. Used to get really anxious as time everything (meals, supps etc) to a specific time. Then you have traffic jams, unforeseen incidents and anything else the world decides to throw that day.

Hope you don’t mind me asking and feel free to tell me to sod off, but in terms of mental health is there anything in particular you suffer from? Anxiety, depression or anything else? Just I have grown up around it since my childhood and had to care for my mum. No resentment in the slightest as made me who I am today and did everything she could + still does. Sorry, back to you ?

Right then, yesterday wiped me out big time. To be fair, it’s usually a cumulative effect of the week- first week back at work and new plan bound to add up. Anyway, session went as follows:

    Overhand pull-up: 30kg x 10, 30kg x 8
    Deficit deadlift: 140kg x 12, 160kg x 9
    Neutral grip hammer row (single arm) 75kg x 7, 65kg x 13
    Wide lat pulldown: 12 plates x 20
    Flat hammer press: 150kg x 5, 130kg x 9
    Dip: 40kg x 8, 30kg x 11
    DB flat flye: 22kg x 20
    Machine lateral raise: 12 plates x 15, 13 plates x 11
Single arm press down: 6 plates x 15
    Cable rear delts: 4 plates x 19
    Decline crunch: 3 sets

Great session. Pull-ups feeling very good and 40kg should be on the belt soon. Weird how easy it felt. I erred on the side of caution for deficit deads and decided to undershoot in terms of poundage. Still worked to failure, but slightly more reps while I gauge the movement. Haven’t deadlifted from the floor since March. Again, movement felt good and 4 pps won’t be far away. That extra 3 inches going back down to the floor feels like miles.

After the session came back and I was zonked. After meal 3, had to go for a nap. 90 mins later the Kraken arose. Managed to time my steps for the only period when it wasn’t raining. Not that it bothers me anyway as it’ll be done, but given the choice. Then just chilled for the evening and watched IT, which subsequently gave the OH nightmares. I have seen it previously but didn’t really take it in.

Rest day today and watching everyone eat bbq food. Not randomly looking over fences, I’m going to a friend’s bbq. Should be clearer. I’m sure they’ll be salivating over my Tupperware meals mind ?
    Back in for legs tomorrow.

Get the air fryer. I bought one at Christmas and honestly I don’t know how I survived without before. I literally cook everything in it apart from my COR

Cor, that’s clearly a sale technique. You should work for their bodybuilding marketing department.

New gym required clearly ? as not an option, substitutes could be chest supported row with bb or dbs on a bench – elevated off the floor or just set on a slight incline. Cable row is another option.

On another note If you got the plan from Jordan, wouldn’t it make sense to ask him?

Sooooo, we’re happy with yesterday’s checkin. Weight at a lovely 84.6kg so a kg down with no cardio and more food. Yeah, Corinne is definitely a wizard! No changes to the plan required. Training going well and new diet sitting well.

Second lower session of the week yesterday and wasn’t expecting miracles. Went to bed at 8 the night before and then woke up 2 hours later. Then couldn’t sleep so filled in my check in at 1am because why not ?‍♂️ settled back down at 2 and then was up for 4. Some very good lifts somehow. On paper it should’ve been a write off. Body’s a fickle thing – can go in feeling like a million dollars and have a horrendous session, sometimes the opposite can happen. Mostly an anomaly more than a rule as going in to every session feeling like poop isn’t ideal (aside from prep then suck it up buttercup).

Upper session tomorrow and deficit deadlifts on the card. RIP Sam

@samking104 THANK YOU. Some of these mad men out here think pancakes are superior.
Oh goodness, I am very uncultured in this realm of waffle. I have never had potato smilies, or hash browns ? but I do have fond fond memories of Saturday evenings at my fathers after a long day on the farm, tucking into a feed of baked beans and potato waffles. So that’s where my heart lies on the situation.

Hang on a tick, you’re Irish and haven’t experienced potato in every one of its forms ? fun fact: never actually enjoyed baked beans until a few years back. Used to be spaghetti hoops on toast for me, baked beans for my sister when we were growing up.

We are a very plain and boring species here in Ireland when it comes to food. I actually don’t think hash browns are even that popular over here? It’s either PLAIN POTATO (with butter, herbs, gravey, bread sauce etc ) or nothing. Hahaha

Haha, such a sheltered existence but all great combos with potatoes. Looking to investing in an air fryer at some point, proper adulting ?

Happy check in Eve Sam! In a weird way I always get excited the night before. Yeah, yeah I’m weird but always look forward to displaying my efforts and talking through the week. I’m sure Corinne enjoys my ramblings as well ?

Nice easy rest day. Lovely walk early this morning. I don’t care who are you are, you cannot be in a foul mood after a morning stroll in the summer sun. Slightly more cardio than anticipated as tried to keep up with a stray dog who kept gunning for the traffic. Just managed to calm him down and get him close, then the owner appeared and he bolted. Seem to have it handled as I saw him carrying the pooch back.

Productive day at work and several podcasts listened to. Almost time for kip as up bright and early for lower tomorrow.

I’d go with Meg. PPL would fit the time restrictions with a touch less volume and time wasting. Upper/lower would take longer than an hour likely, especially upper sessions.

You haven’t mentioned whether you have been training during gym closures either. If not, then the lower volume and time restrictions will benefit into getting back into it.
