Hiya Jay
Offseason kicking off nicely by the looks of it my man. Coaching on hold? I get it – bodybuilding is full on and you have to put your all into it. Is just the diet aspect tat you are being more flexible on? Being a family man sometimes necessitates this additional flexibility. Easy to sub on some bangers and mash as well eh?
You know this is coming, but what constituted the final decision to go solo for a bit?

Homemade definitely the route to go, but it all depends on your personal preferences as to what you’ll have. If it’s a homemade affair with clean macrosI’d consider it a re-feed, but if you opt for crisps, chocolate etc (empty calories) you’re fulfilling more of a craving than replenishing your body.
All depends on what you want to accomplish from the meal. Personally Haider and Jimmy’s choices are great. Homemade pitta pizza always a winner with a side of spaghetti Bol and small anti-pasti selection, along with a small dessert. Asda does 1cal jelly. Homemade curry with a passata base is another great one. Get creative with your favouritesInstagram: samking104

Meal 1 down the hatch – 100g ground rice, 80g apple, 40g nut butter and 25g Whey Isolate. Naturally didn’t stick around for long.
Bodyweight up to 72.25kg this morning so happy with that. First check in with the boss shortly and will find out what the game plan in terms of food is going forwards. They’ll be a series of check ins throughout the day to monitor how the body is responding, then carbs and/or sodium will be added or pulled where necessary.
Running order of the day will be eat a meal at 8:30-9 and leave our accommodation for around 9 to go to the venue. Tan touch up around 9:30, followed by athlete’s check in 10-11. Show kicks off at 12 with the following running order:
Masters over 60’s – 4 competitors; Masters over 40’s – 5; Ladies BB – 6; Masters over 50’s LW’s – 6; Trained Figure over 40’s – 3; Novices – 4; Toned Figure over 40’s – 5;
INTERVAL and RAFFLE
MW’s under 78kg – 4; Masters over 50’s HW’s – 7; Toned Figure – 8; LW’s under 70kg – 7; Trained Figure – 3; Juniors – 1; HW’s – 2.My class ‘Novices’ is on 7th in the first half so earlier than anticipated. In the qualifier I was on near the end – it was novices, heavyweights, ladies overalls and then men’s overalls so there wasn’t too much waiting around. Going to be interesting as if I did win my class, I’d be waiting around for the overall and can’t stuff my face haha. Not that I’m food focused in the slightest, although I am watching Diners, Drive Ins and Dives at 7 in the morning – hmmmm, haha. Nah, it’s just easy watching in the morning and to have in the background while I potter around.
Everything is ready and packed to go so just relaxing. Whatever the result, I’m happy with what has been achieved and know that I’ve done everything that I can do. All down to what the other competitors bring and what the judges decide on. Better believe that I’m enjoying the entire experience in any case.

Evening guys.. do after the extra carbs my body decided to drop 0.6kg so lightest I’ve been yet. Had to take pics indoors too so a little different angle etc. Tomorrow is my sons 6th birthday so we went to Legoland Birmingham. Not ideal 7 days out but I’d never miss seeing him so happy. We’re in a hotel in Birmingham now and I’m relaxing in an Epsom salt bath. Tomorrow is leg day..: the last session so I’m determined to kill it. Rest Monday then push pull Tuesday Wednesday and fly Thursday everything fitting perfectly ! Jordan took cardio down to only 10 mins from now and the 50 carbs pre and post are staying.
The things we do for loved ones eh? Decided to plan my OH’s 30th birthday party a week before my finals and then two days later taking her to the Harry Potter studio tour. Hmmmm, well though out. To be honest I enjoyed both experiences and even though I couldn’t fully indulge, although I have some goodies saved, I still felt good taking part and feeling a bit normal. Although my conversation was highly one sided on their part – my contributions primarily being a nod, the odd laugh and staring into space.
Still can’t get over how far your mindset has come since I started following you my man – completely different guy. It seems as though that hernia was the best thing to happen to you. Gave your body a proper chance to recover which I bet helped.
Word of warning – last leg session will kill you. I did an Epsom alt bath the night before as well funnily enough. Whatever happens in these final sessions, you know the hard work is done. Enjoy the final leg of the process.

Evening All
What a journey it was – several traffic jams, accidents, roadworks and rest stop breaks later we arrived at our accommodation after around 6 hours on the road. Kept a mental tally of all the best rest stops for the journey back if food is required and truth be told, their prices were not as steep as I remember. Sure, a tad more expensive but that’s the nature of the beast.
First coat of tan applied, although what a palava it was. Thought my phone had Google aps installed, but it was just the standard maps and had to swipe my screen to see the next bit. How hard can it be? It turns out – very. Nearly ended up on route to Leeds so had to pull in, install Google Maps and recommence my journey. Tanning was running an hour behind so luckily I had packed my next meal. Appetite is humming along nicely. From the check in earlier food has been slightly tweaked as below:
7.30 – Meal 6 – 100g 5% fat beef, 5g evoo, 90g rice – ADD 85g oats -1000MG VIT C AND 500MG DANDELION ROOT
(10pm) Pre bed – 20g protein from whey, 165g oats, 150g apple, ADD 1000MG VIT C AND 500MG DANDELION ROOT – may need to sub the oats for ground rice as sits far better, especially with that volume.
Checking in with the boss shortly so will see what is said.

Hey Sam!
Great to have been following you, just one more day!
Question: since you will be dropping sodium today (obviously to get rid of extra water), will it be reintroduced the day of the show?Cheers dude – has been one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life. Hmmmm, how sad haha.
Sodium has been consistent throughout and I have seasoned all of my meals, including things like oats, ground rice and whey paste with it in addition to other seasonings up until yesterday. Nope, sodium is out until just before going on stage where I’ll have a smidge just to ensure cramping doesn’t occur.

Right then, tomorrow is show day. Today’s weight is 71.7kg compared to yesterday’s 72.6kg – nearly a kilo drop overnight. What was the secret you ask – sweating it out in the sauna, 2 hours of cardio? Nope, just resting with minimal steps and just taking it easy.
Back to today – getting ready to drive up to Middleton now. Looking at a 4 and half hour trip which isn’t too bad, but we’re leaving nice and early so we can take our time. No rush at all. Tan is at 5:30 and get to work with the legend that is Leese Nos. Know I’m in good hand with good ol’ LSR products in my corner.
Today’s diet outlined as follows, unless there are changes:
SATURDAY – NO SODIUM ON MEALS
(7am) Meal 1 – 20g protein from whey, 90g ground rice, 100g apple, 20g nut butter
(9.30am) Meal 2 – 100g chicken/turkey breast, 115g rice, 20g cashews
(12noon) Meal 3 – 100g 5% fat beef, 5g evoo, 115g rice
(2.30pm) Meal 4 – 20g protein from whey, 90g ground rice, 100g apple, 20g nut butter
Pictures to me at 3.45pm
(5pm) Meal 5 – 100g chicken/turkey breast, 115g rice, 20g cashews
(7.30pm) Meal 6 – 100g 5% fat beef, 5g evoo, 115g rice – 1000MG VIT C AND 500MG DANDELION ROOT
Pictures to me at 8.45pm
(10pm) Pre bed – 20g protein from whey, 90g ground rice, 100g apple, 20g nut butter – 1000MG VIT C AND 500MG DANDELION ROOT
Stop water at bed time like you usually would, just baby sips as neededAnywho, time to leave and I appreciate all of the support, whether that has been vocalised or spectators that have been following along. As I have said all along, I have found the blogging a very worthwhile endeavour and was more of a way for me to not only track my journey, but to put my thoughts on paper, errr screen. You’d be surprised how beneficial it is to read your thoughts rather than deal with them internally. Things always appear a lot worse in the delicate realms of human thoughts.
Hope everyone has a smashing Saturday – I sure know I will.

It’s quite an outdated concept and many of the articles cite that you can change your somatype to some degree by training and diet. In addition, many people are comprised of more than one even across the physique.
Just train hard, adequately refuel/recover and progress your lifts. Don’t place limitations like ectomorph or hard gainer on yourself. Just get it done

Personally I use cardio as more of a tool during prep. As mentioned previously, your body adapts and becomes more efficient the more you do cardio. Say, you start off doing 20 mins a day and are burning around 300 calories. Over time and as your body becomes more efficient, you could be burning 10-20% less than the machine indicates. Add in the fact if you’re doing this 3-4 times a week and you decide to prep or lean down, you’ll likely need more cardio to reach your desired/required condition.
I find that for me NEAT activity and intense training keeps me ticking over in the offseason. If I do notice digestion begins to become impacted, I may add in a brief walk first thing to kickstart digestion but only a brief 10-20 mins max.
However, if you are an enhanced athlete and/or slightly heavier individual with a very sedentary lifestyle, then cardio would likely be beneficial to keep your cardiovascular system humming along and not gassing out during your workouts. Not from personal experience, but that appears to be the general consensus.

At the end of the day bud progress is progress, even if it isn’t 100kg extra every week. You’ve answered that you’re still progressing both sets, albeit not at the rate you would’ve hoped but they’re still going up so get stuck in, be stubborn and keep grinding. Say, you were stuck with your back off set you can add micro plates and even if it’s just 0.5kg, that soon adds up over the long haul.
Whereabouts are you placing deads in your split I’m assuming near the start of your routine?

Absolutely loving Bulk Powders Whey Isolate – Chocolate Malted Honeycomb, Chocolate Mint and Banana Fudge have all been stellar so far.

3 days out now and it’s a strange feeling as it does and it doesn’t feel just around the corner. Whether it does or it doesn’t, it’s happening.
Bodyweight this morning was 72.3kg so 0.05kg up from yesterday. Last pull session completed yesterday and it was surreal. I was still hitting pbs, but my reaction was ‘oh, that was an extra rep or smidge of weight – that’s good’. Normally way more enthused haha. I literally don’t know what is fuelling these sessions as I’m going through the movement and somehow the reps just keep coming.
So yesterday had my Barnett trimmed at the Turkish barbers and had a hot towel on the face, absolutely love it. Good to have some warmth on these cheekbones. Purchased the new Resident Evil 2 game for 16 quid so that’ll be a post show treat while I’m rolling around in a bloated carby state. Had a funny moment yesterday as well. Walked across a busy road and my car keys dropped from my pocket into said road. All I could was watch as wave after wave of traffic went over my keys – swear it was deliberate. After the onslaught, I checked the remains and found the key intact with just the plastic shattered. Went back to the car to go home – key worked in the door, cool. Popped the key in the ignition and turned it – the engine would not turn over. Message on dashboard ‘Engine immobiliser not detected’. Had to ring the OH who was considerably calm to bring the spare keys. As it is her car, she had to get the bus through rush hour traffic and run over to where I was. Thankfully the car was ok and it was just the key. In the plastic bit there was a microchip to avoid key cloning. Neither of us stressed as what’s the point. Rushed home, prepped a meal, went to the gym for final cardio and then some light deep tissue work to flush out the lats and quads.
Today’s plan is minimal steps and no cardio – massive emphasis on recover now leading into the final few days. Right, off to work I go – have a good day people.

4 days out – 72.25kg on wake this morning. Noticed weight likes to go up slightly and then down by minute amounts each check in, nothing major.
Harry Potter tour was fantastic and the OH massively enjoyed herself. Personally I have enjoyed the films and it was a good look at what happens behind the scenes, as well as the intricate details however being a major tourist attraction meant there were… well, tourists. Gaggles of exchange students with no understanding of personal space, errrggghh. Originally I was concerned that my steps would be really high, however I still had to do some on our return – typical, haha. Had my first Starbucks yesterday as well, went for a standard Americano and wasn’t too bad at all. An occasional treat, but not something I’d buy on the daily.
Today’s plan – day off of work so will be doing my last pull session shortly, no loading through the legs. Today’s rotation would’ve called for deadlifts so will sub for a supported row. Rest of the day will be little jobs, posing practise and resting which will likely include some time on the PlayStation. Final session of cardio tonight if the plan doesn’t change followed by a deep tissue session with Harry Harris – that’s right, newly crowned IFBB pro Harry Harris. Known him for absolutely years, hailing back to our times in Fitness First when the equipment actually wasn’t too bad back then and we had a good crowd. Planning on flushing out the quads and working on the lats along with some other areas we feel need it.
No diet changes as of yet so plan’s still working I guess. Water intake up to 7 litres today – 2 litres down already with 250ml coffee, 250ml green tea and 1.5l water. Intra will be another 1.5l so that’s nearly 50% there. Will generally drink around 750ml between meals and taper off at the end of the day as don’t want to be up all night peeing.
To anyone reading, hope everything is going well both in life and with your training. Have a good day
