At a great starting point bud and well done for maximising your natural potential first.

We have a bit of background info on you, but what’s the goal going forwards aside from growing? Competing wise, are you hoping to work towards pro status and which category do you feel best fits your vision? May be too early to tell, but wondered what your long term vision was?

    Morning All

Sat currently waiting for Primitive to open and get my fasted cardio done. Have been up since 7 pottering around, trying not to think about eating but managed to keep myself nice and busy. Food is prepped, posing practise done, some odd wedding jobs done and updating my playlists.

So yesterday I did some posing practise with Ryan and he seemed to be very happy with the improvements since the last session. You don’t realise how much being leaner affects certain hand spacing, feet positioning and even little twists. I guess it is the same when you put on stage weight – the posing will have been altered as what worked before, may look slightly off. Got the starts of a routine and you’d better believe there are some classic shots in there.

Plans for today after cardio are to get some odd jobs done, meet up with the mother for a walk come rain or shine and then meeting up with some friends later. Nice all round Saturday.

Saw my grandma for the first time this year the other day and she commented how well I look. Hmmm, that’s not going to cut it as still not lean enough haha. When she starts worrying about me with my sucked in cheeks and wants to feed me back up, then I now I’m ready! Bit of a shame but I’m staying with her for a few days next month and all her delectable cooking will be off the menu =( Although I’m sure looking at and smelling it is just as good as eating it, riiiggghhtt?

And with that, time for cardio – have a good day.

The last week has absolutely flown by! In a really good routine with cardio now and I have more energy than did a couple of months back. Hmmm, less food and more activity = more energy? I’ll go with it, not complaining in the slightest.

This week’s check in went really well and at 9.5 weeks out, Corinne and I are both happy with progress so far. Have been given a new training split now so looking forward to getting stuck into that. Until next check in, will be training every other day as a mini de-load and then its time to get stuck back in.

Got posing practise with Ryan Petford in a bit so will look to tweak my poses, work on the symmetry as left arm likes to drift sometimes, front lat spread work and putting together the start of a routine – whew! My reward after that is cardio.

Current weight sits at 79.5kg, which is crazy as I haven’t been that light since I was 18. I’ve attached a couple of current pics of where I’m at.

Whew, welcome back! How was the chilli con carne? Well worth the wait I bet!

Very interesting to read your post show reflection as it’s the most difficult time to reflect in an honest manner. As long as you know, there’s no stone left unturned and you worked as hard as you could then it’s just a matter of time + making the necessary improvements.

At least we know you were in condition, no doubt about that! Enjoy the downtime as I’m sure the next phase will be a killer. I sense Pivotal Reps on the horizon

Hope you had a safe trip and are settling in to your lodgings well.

What’s the plan for carbing up this time then? Assuming you’ll judge it based on how you look/feel and adjust accordingly, however is there a rough template in place? With cardio out and steps minimised, that’ll bring out the legs nicely and we’ll get a good look after the inflammation has subsided.

On the back of carbing up, are you planning on doing a depletion session before filling back out? As you’ve already said, you feel flat and depleted as is so not sure if you would. A lot of people do it just because they think that’s part of the final week process. In terms of training, when’s your last day? Well, I say training as it’s more of a body pump up.

7.5 litres of water!? Jeez, basically living in the bathroom. Hopefully you had a downstairs loo at home, otherwise you wouldn’t be popular haha.

Can’t believe the day is nearly here already, it has absolutely flown by!

That makes perfect sense – almost working your way up to the big lift by starting off with more straight forward variations and building the necessary technique/foundation to progress to the conventional dead.

For experienced athletes, can be argued it is used to blast through a sticking point by overloading the top half of the motion. Usually though this comes at a cost of ego.

Corinne’s taken deads out of my split for now until after my comp – I miss them haha.

Ooo smith squats in the mix, things are starting to get nasty! Lower back takes far longer to recover than most can imagine, especially when in the depths of prep.

It’s a been a couple of really good days again – body is ticking along nicely and energy levels are relatively high. Push session wasn’t too shabby in the end on Tuesday. The last time I did that rotation my lifts absolutely bombed so was nervous going in. However, everything is as should be except loading was slightly down but reps were up so I’ll take that. Left shoulder injury still likes to make it’s presence known in push sessions so have to go with it when it flares up. No point in it leading to a full impingement again as that would severely affect my training and don’t have the time to nurse around an injury.

Legs today and looking forward to it. I’ve found during mini cuts in the past my legs seem to drop off in fullness and strength quite dramatically. However, this time it seems they want to stick around so I’m going to continue to give them a reason to.

Check in with Corinne today and very happy with progress so far. Will post up some current pics later to show what we’re working with 10.5 weeks out.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Alright Haider, how are you doing? Good to see your face cropping up in more and more videos. I can’t even fathom eating 20k worth of calories in one day – even half that would be a struggle. Remember reading an article on T-Nation where the diet outline order two XL pizzas and emptying out an entire bottle of olive oil over both. That was one meal. Another was an all you can eat Chinese and breakfast I believe was from Mcdonalds with added extras in the Mcmuffin. In theory this sounds awesome and I know Juan Morel was a big advocate of eating like this, but in reality you end up feeling like shite. Spend most of the time sitting there like a big fat anaconda that’s just had an antelope.

Sounds as though it was a good stag do. So tricky as a bodybuilder to just let your hair down, but sometimes you have to just live a bit. Those memories will stay long with you after you’ve hung up the lifting straps. What did you do for your own stag do?

Sooooo jealous looking at your food haha. Remember reading prior that your off-plan meals involve just cooking or making something at home like sandwiches. That’s what we first bonded over haha. Sometimes it’s just nice to have some normality and make a meal with the OH that you can both enjoy together. Don’t get me wrong – going out for food is nice as well and I’m already writing a list of places to go post show haha.

Hey Sam. Thanks mate. Yeah I’m doing really well thank you. Hahaha oh mate it was torture in the end. All good until around 3pm then I was like fuck!!! Hahaha. I will have a look at that. Yeah most definitely. I tried to make it enjoyable which it was for a bit. But force feeding is wank!

Yeah mate your so right. It is tough but I felt I needed it. More so to have a break from reality more than anything else it was really nice. So myself and my partner aren’t married yet. It’s booked tho so I’ll let u know what I do for mine. lol.

You’ll be back in a surplus in no time brother don’t worry. How long do u have left until show time now ? Yeah eating at home is my absolute favourite!! Haha I can imagine. Where’s on the list?

Good to hear bud. Easy to forget that you’re still recovering from the hernia surgery. How’s everything feeling now you’re starting to push the weight? Yeah I can’t imagine force feeding is pretty.

Sounds like the break was just the trick and like a bit reset button for body and mind. Nice now and then to be a ‘normal’ lad haha. Say wha!?! Swear you were married. Myself and the OH are booked in next year to wed. Took me 8 years to pop the question (9 years together in total now), but don’t see what the rush is. Sure I remember rightly, but you and your partner have been together around the same length of time as us.

So it’s 10 and a half weeks until showtime. Feels like a long time, but it doesn’t at the same time. It’s that weird stage where changes are happening however your mind is starting to play tricks on you. Can’t wait until further down the line when it’s 10x worse – guessing you look worse and feel/look smaller? Thankfully Corinne’s in my corner.

Well my man, I’m not a massive off plan eater. Definitely won’t be piling on 14lbs in a week or something absurd like that. Few places on the list are Monty’s Burger Lounge – some of the best burgers in Bournemouth and not too greasy compared to other offerings. Moose Kitchen is definitely on the cards which is Canadian themed ad you’d better believe I’m having the poutine. Lastly, a Chinese all you can eat called Bamboo Leaf. Food is cooked fresh to order and is amazing. The OH has also said she will cook me a three course meal which we haven’t done in ages. Oh, and there will definitely be a bit fat sandwich at some point! Going to stagger everything over a few weeks as a minimum.

Yeah I think I’m fully recovered now. I’m really training as hard as ever so I’m happy with that tbh.

It was very much needed. I’m really happy I went as I nearly pulled out so many times ! Ahh no mate. We’ve been together like you for 9 years so as good as ! And we have 2 kids so yeah I guess it seems as we are lol. It’s about time I made a decent woman out of her hahaha. No your right there’s no rush but it feels right. We’re booked for 2021 so still have some time to save up as it’s going to be an expensive affair !

10 and a half weeks! Amazing. That’s gonna fly by mate. Yeah for sure the mind games will get worse haha but don’t worry as you say Corinne is amazing and will bring u in looking your absolute best by a mile. I’m very confident of that. Which show is it?

Yeah mate that’s just silly. Good to have some things to look forward to for sure and the places you’ve mentioned sound awesome ! Poutine is amazing hahaha. Definitely stagger it and you will stay in good shape for a longtime.[/quote]

Fully recovered – that’s amazing and a testament to being patient. Clearly it was the TrainedbyJP range that aided your recovery haha.

Going for the bells and whistles type wedding are you? In a weird way it’s actually enjoyable planning everything and pretty much stress free… for now.

It is absolutely flying by, but really enjoying the process at the moment. Going for the NPA Southeast show in Taunton August 18th. They only have novice or weight categories. As there’s no beginner choice, novice it is. Weight classes will be very competitive and we have no idea where my ideal weight will fall. You also have to commit to a class when entering, not just show up and weigh in. First time I’ve properly dieted apart from mini cuts. It’s really weird but have barely had any cravings yet.

Poutine is soooo good. We have a Canadian restaurant here and the chef is from Canada so you can only imagine. Triple cooked chips, cheese curds and a rich gravy/broth. Usually with a good philly cheesesteak too. Be good to take the missus out as well and bring back some normality. Just as much a treat for her as it is for me. How about yourself? Anything on the cards for your big refeed or do you have a go-to after every show?

@samking104 first of all thank you for the compliments and those comparisons, I’m very flattered..I will take ‘mini’ as a compliment as Shaun-tavernier is one of the most complete bodybuilders I know..I’m far from him so mini will do.
I believe certain movements have cross over to their cousins . Example I believe the eccentric conventional deadlifts set me up for the RDL, hence why I went straight to 220kg for 6 reps in the first rotation. In the second rotation on Sunday I took 225kg for 6. So I’m feeling very confident I’ll surpass 230kg this prep.
Plus I’ve only introduced AAS this week so that’ll see me make steps forward in Strentgh.
Sam I’ve been building up for this moment for the last 7 years, so now that it’s here, my plan is to enjoy it as much as I can..it’s almost back to step one for me as bodybuilding is a different game..you said it yourself, to achieve striated glutes , your character will be tested massively. But I’ve never been shut my of getting my hands dirty so like yourself I’m looking forward to the finished product. : ) thank you for checking in.

You’re welcome matey – still a lot more potential to be realised that’s for sure! Shaun is absolutely insane – no tendons or ligaments, just pure grade-A beef.

Fore sure, there is carry over to every movement from another. Deads being rack pulls and stiff legged variations along with other exercises. Same for something like the bench press – often it’s the secondary muscles that should be focused on. Overhead presses, dips, CG bench and other movements will boost it up. Still, a brave man to jump that heavy haha. What is your opinion on rack pulls? I’m really undecided as personally I think it’s one of the most bastardised movements – too much weight, poor ROM with most which ties in with point one and people almost emulating a standing leg press. Obviously it has its merits, but…

Nice response Oscar – exactly what I wanted to hear, but I’m in no way surprised. As soon as you stop enjoying it, then you resent it and the passion fizzles out. Exception being Jay Cutler as it was just business for him and he hated the training side of it haha.

New routine with cardio is well and truly implemented. I’ve rented out a bed in Primitive and have all of my mail directed now as I basically live there haha.

Enjoying the process so far, but am quickly realising how little I’m seeing of the OH. There aren’t too many women that would tolerate being with a bodybuilder, especially during prep. She’s really going out of her way to make sure the house is upheld and if I require any help. Exactly why I’m going to marry her! When you think about it, the situation is bizarre – you are essentially self inflicting the entire process on yourself. However, the fallout affects those around you.

Pull session yesterday was very good. All movements progressed so happy with that. Push is on the cards this morning and really need to get my mind into. Pull and legs are still progressing nicely, however push is the one I find where strength can vary. Last time I did today’s rotation it wasn’t the best, so that’ll be used as fire for today!
