Fantastic legs session yesterday. Even with my minor setback the day prior, I smashed out some pretty good pbs. 220kg on the reverse hack for a solid 9 which felt great. Also, managed a set of 20 with 125kg on the safety bar squat after. Safe to say I am not a squatter and never have been. Used to be in the train of thought that you must squat to grow legs and unleash 1000% GH as a result of performing the motion. Good old Flex and M&F / Joe Weider drumming that into us. Nothing against the squat at all and have always performed it, but no freaky poundages from me. Find I’m better with higher reps on squat motions. Now, deadlifts are my cup of tea. Naturally a fairly good puller. Got my eyes on a 240kg rack pull for reps very soon. Managed 232.5kg for 9 last time I performed them so tomorrow will be interesting.

Today’s a rest day so I shall be doing just that, resting. It’s a US Bank Holiday so I usually have these off (as I cater to the US market) but I have taken on some European clients recently. As such, worked a half day to cover them off. After feeling better yesterday, another turn for the worse later that day as a lemon and ginger tea set me off. Tried to get my food in where poss but didn’t want to upset my already delicate body. Stayed away from red meat to ease up on digestion. Unfortunately this led to missing a meal, however had to listen to the body. Overall cals were a bit down as a result but feeling back on track today. Appetite is back so should be ready for my pull session tomorrow.

Plans for the rest of the day will be errands and trying to sneak some video games in. I’ve got tons to play. Currently having a go at Bloodborne on the PS4 and it’s harder than a pornstar on viagra. Still, not a quitter so will happily be be the game’s bitch while I learn the ins and outs. I also have God of War to play at some point as well, so look forward to that. Resident Evil 2 remake is a big cross on my calendar at the mo. The original was one of my favorite games of all time. However, I hate buying games full price. They come down in price so quickly it doesn’t make sense but I’m so torn. Could argue I’ve waited this long, what’s a couple of months. Still…

Right, that’s enough ramblings from me. Keep smashing your goals guys and gals. If you’re not, then someone else is!

Hey Jay, good to see you on my log. If anything, it’s handy to keep yourself accountable and document everything plus it is nice to have a reminder of the journey. Try to keep it interesting now I have a fanbase haha.

Definitely recommend it mate. See you around on the forum a fair bit so be good to see what’s going on with you. First show as well eh? We can both be miserable together in that case!

Split stance safety squat!? That’s taking it too far. I just can’t even fathom that, absurd haha. Was it just DOMs in the glutes John? Guessing that was quite a wide step forwards?

JDH – I agree with you, side delts barely ever ache except from cuff raises recently have really been doing it for me. Have done them previously, but didn’t have the connection that I do now. I find biceps basically never ache, unless I do an absurd drop set with hundreds of reps (which would induce DOMs regardless). With standard straight sets, nothing.

Don’t forget your hot knife or blowtorch today for your quads today Corinne, it is Sunday legs after all!! Yar big year for Disney reboots. I loved the Jungle Book one a couple of years back, but with Aladdin and Lion King – two of my faves- they’d best pull it out of the bag. Will Smith is the genie in Aladdin and James Earl Jones is reprising his role in Lion King. Can’t wait to cry all over again!

    Happy Sunday All

So, fantastic night’s sleep, completely unbroken. Bed to myself – that’s the secret. Sssshhh, don’t tell Maxine =) Apparently I’m very warm so she gravitates towards me in the night and end up getting an unconscious elbow to the face, bless her. I like my space when I’m sleeping – as soon as I announce and head hits the pillow I’m sleeping, back off!

After Friday’s setback, my body is feeling much better today so I will be training legs. Pre workout meal has been ingested and I’m just plodding, doing a few errands before I train.

Reverse hack squats banded on the cards today. One of my strongest exercises by far. Feels more natural than the standard hack, but my glutes and hammies have always been strong. All these people doing glute activation exercises, I need to switch mine off! Jo Lo booty in da house. Many a pair of trousers have been ripped by my buttocks and legs. One such time was at my friend’s wedding. Jumped on a mate’s back for a photo and sure enough, rrriiiiipppp. That was me for the rest of the evening with the biggest rip on the inseam ever. I just went with it and continued to enjoy my night, what else could I do!? It’s still my FB pic to this date and one of my favourites.

Aside from training, going to see some family and get ready for the week to come. Can’t believe the end of January is drawing closer. It’ll be my wedding day before I know it and comp day =O

To anyone reading, hope you have a smashing day.

Wow, that’s incredible Clare – good for them. Unfortunately people really are in their own bubbles and our first world problems pale in comparison. Always be thankful for what you get and have. If you reject it, someone would seize it with both hands, no hesitation. Food wastage is one of the big bug bears. With Christmas just gone, people just throwing away excess food. I know some supermarkets donate excess stock at Xmas, some year round but still…

I was watching Karl Pilkington the other day and he did a segment with a man who chose to live off of the land, essentially homeless by choice. He roamed the city and in a couple of hours, managed to find some new trousers, a new jacket, a cake I believe and several whole pizzas among other things. All of this was recovered from dumpsters, however the quality was not compromised. If I remember, the pizzas had pineapple so that was the ‘reason’ for disposal.

How is your forearm doing now? I’m assuming the old CBD is in action?

    Hi Haider

Been dipping in and out of your log for a while now, but now I see something worth commenting about – sandwiches haha!!! Do love a good sandwich but not something I really eat anymore unless it is a treat. However, your New York Deli is right up my street. The peppery hit from the pastrami and rocket, so good. Have to say one of my favourites is a roast dinner sandwich on Christmas Day. Everything I had for my dinner stacked between 2 slices of bread or in the case of this year, club style. Whip a side of dunking gravy and good to go.

Training seems to be going really well, even with the underlying hernia and shoulder. Are you nervous about pushing up with the hernia? Even though I’m sure you’re aware of the limitation, there must be some conscious or self-conscious holding back? I’m with you on incline smith. Such a pain to progress – micro plates are the way forward. The smith in my gym adds about an extra 20kg of resistance because it is so stiff. Anyone pressing two plates a side is definitely a freak using that particular smith.

A really good push session in the bag yesterday. Shoulder played ball so everything felt a go. Managed a lovely 140kg for 7 reps on the ol hammer press incline. Next session, 8 reps will be in the bag. Also managed 40kg on the dipping bars for a solid 8. It feels like an age since I’ve had 3 20s hanging off a belt – a good few years back. Managed it for a decent couple of reps. Hopefully look to progress dips to 50kg for 8 – managed 6 before the injury hit, but this time it will be much smoother.

So, after saying everything is going really well had a very restless night due to mild food poisoning. Details aside, body is feeling a bit battered today. Thankfully it is a rest day otherwise it would’ve been enforced. I’m supposed to be training legs tomorrow, but if my body’s not 100% then I’ll give it another day of rest. Sure, my legs will lose 85% of their hypertrophy by delaying a further day, however listen to the body and with digestion not 100% it would just overstress my system.

Been resting quite a bit so may be able to make it out tonight to my friend’s tonight, but again I’ll go with my body. Just come back from a little wander, around 5,000 steps and felt alright.

Ah nice. So more of a treatment rather than a preventative measure then. Tendon injuries take an age to heal obviously with the science behind it – poor blood supply, overuse blah blah blah. Still, annoying. Don’t know if it is just me, but notice these things flare up more during the colder months or just general aches/niggles may crop up.

Darn tootin’, get that link up. Always love a good interview and some random questions thrown in the mix adds an element of mystery!

Didn’t think of lunges, but yeah many a step has been made harder the next day (or three) after lunges. Leg extensions are definitely the equivalent of a blowtorch on the quads or a hot knife inserted + twisted – lovely visual, but you get the idea.

Guessing you and Christian won’t be doing much after that session yesterday haha. What did the session pan out like? I want to hear all of the gory details, leave nothing out!

Mary Poppins not really my fortay. My mum really enjoys it so will be the good son and take her at some point. She doesn’t really go to the cinema so be a nice treat. I’d rather be seeing Glass. Love, love James Mcavoy. Films on the cards this year has to be Aladdin and Lion King remakes. Will make a conscious effort to go to the cinema to see those. Any films you’re looking forward to, when you find the time that is?

Morning to everyone who is probably sane and catching their zzzs. So, yesterday’s pull session wasn’t too shabby. Getting to the point where I’m starting to fight for progression on some exercises. Baby weights have come out as the big boy plates (of 1.25kg) are a tad too much to stay in my working rep range. As long as I get an extra half rep (or 1/16th of a rep) and/or some more load each session, I’m happy. Obviously you can’t be Superman every day, unless you’re Superman in which case what would he say in this circumstance!? You can’t be Thor every day?… But then what would Thor say… I’m leaving it there.

Right, push session today. As mentioned previously, my left shoulder has been a bit iffy for as long as I can remember but peaked last July with an impingement. As I’ve only just recently started to overload again, lots of untapped potential for progression or er, re-progression I guess as gaining back what I lost. In fairness, I think my body’s retained a very good chunk of muscle even with the reduced intensity. When I was younger, I’d only take time off the gym when I was ill which was obviously too late to benefit from a good rest. This was in fear of resembling Christian Bale from The Machinist after a few days. Obviously not true, but funny how you can think that way. Besides, love to train.

Check min went well yesterday. As I predicted, calories to be reduced slightly. Damn, I’m good. (I have spaces for coaching available, but only very limited spaces. Edit: I’m joking). Do love when people offer this service after one comp or they have a high Insta following. If people ask me for training plans or diets, I don’t mind giving an overview, but I’m in no way qualified unless I go for the cookie cutter approach or just replicate what I have done. No fun in that and plagiarism is naughty. Anyway back to the check in. Weight slightly decreased and waist down 0.5cm. Pictures back up fat loss as looking tighter. Output has been slightly increased on rest days in the form of NEAT (best cardio ever) and calories dropped, mainly in the form of carbs. Felt my weight shot up a lot after a rest day, due to no training and increased stores of glycogen. Besides, cals needed to be reduced so makes sense to take from a lazy day but not too much as recovery is still an ongoing priority. Cals also reduced for push days.

In other news, have the mother in law to be down over the weekend so that should be nice. Seeing the boys tomorrow for a games night – bit of Mario Party on the Switch and some good card games, including Exploding Kittens, We didn’t playtest this at all and some board games. Yeah I know how to live. They’ll be snacks but as standard, I’m a good boy and Tupperware will be in attendance. No-one bats an eyelids anymore.

Anywho, to anyone who has been reading my rambles hope you have a spiffing day.

Check in sent to the boss lady and still happy with progression. Very, very slight weight drop to 85.2kg from 85.3kg so expect another cal decrease. Output will remain low I am assuming, just a cal adjustment. Trying to keep these legs nice and full that we’ve built.

Doing the usual – homemade pre-workout going down, checking in on the site with a new pull video from Corinne to provide some inspiration for today and some general housework before heading to the gym. Also, sneaking in a bit of wedding planning without the other half. She’s more than welcome to assist, but doubt she’d trade the zzzs for it. She’s been working very hard recently, we both have but I’ve been taking the bulk of the homely duties where possible to ease some of the pressure. That’s the beauty of relationships – you’re a team and when one is under pressure, you help alleviate and assist where possible. Corny and seemingly obvious, but I know of a lot of relationships where it can be just the one person running a household.

It won’t be long under you’re back in prep mode anyhow. Blink and you’ll miss it. Such a small window to make the improvements you want, but I’m sure we’re all confident that you’ll deliver and then some.

Do you just use dry needling for current injuries or as a preventative measure?

Haha exactly. Good to hear the body’s in full working order. That means it can comply and add the improvements/recover much more efficiently.

Glad I’m not the only one paranoid. If you had 10g beta alaine in one scoop, boy – you’d know about it. Yeah should be interesting to see the launch. Going to sell out in no time I’m betting and for good reason.

Indeed I am, prep is officially underway. Around the 16 week mark now so plenty of time to become miserable and depressed haha. Nah, looking forward to it and got a good support network. Contary to belief, I view bodybuilding as a team sport with the main difference being you are the star player and everything is based around you. Selfish to an extent, but helps if everyone supports or at least accepts your goals.

Indeed it is – see what’s really hiding under this layer of fluff.

Rest day today. Needed it after doing legs yesterday, followed by mini golf in the evening – CNS took a right beating, especially from the golf. In all honesty, felt a bit battered over the weekend but everything is going smoothly at the mo and feeling better now. Check in is due tomorrow and had a sneaky peak at the scales earlier – everything’s looking on track. Assuming there will be a slight drop in cals tomorrow

Pull tomorrow but thankfully my easier session. By easy, I mean no deadlift variations but still pretty intense. Love them to bits, however the lower back does need a bit of rest. Ready for rack pulls next week which have been progressing very well, along with Yates style deadlifts.
