Hey Matt it looks as though you have kind of answered your own question. Fact is that is different depending on your where you are in your bodybuilding journey and your recovery capabilities. Luke and James are pros hence why they can add an arm day, but unless you’re at that level an exclusive arm day is not necessary.
You haven’t posted your routine so based off of my own (push, legs, pull) I train biceps with push (4 sets) and then I do a quad drop set on pull day, just the one set for higher reps. 5 sets over the course of a training week. More than ample if your form and intensity are spot on. Again, you may feel an additional set may be beneficial and it may be but less is definitely more. I would try out the lowest volume you can and assess after 2-3 rotations. It is a constant experiment. 5 sets might initially be too much, however don’t be afraid to reduce volume.

An exceptionally tough line up but you are holding your own easily. Confidence is beaming off of you and it looks like you’re having a ball up there. Definitely confirms that you belong on the pro stage, not that we have ever doubted you ☺

Hah fair – very grown up. So no dancing round the house to Funky Town then?

That chilli sounds devine. Such a good comfort food and very homely. I feel a ton of prs coming up! To be honest, Mexican food is amazing. Do you make your chilli from scratch?

Wow I thought I was the only bodybuilder to not like sushi. I just don’t get it. A sushi bar or seafood only restaurant is my idea of culinary hell. Like the boring fish though when cals are low – salmon, tuna and white fish. Herbs and spices go a long way!

Give me any cheesecake and you’ll witness something special aka the whole thing disappearing! Don’t get the fruit swirls though. Tons of fruit on top or none at all please.

My goodness! That sounds amazing. Ok, so all I need to is win a show. Now there is an incentive! Never been a massive cake lover (aside from chocolate) or pastry person. However, brownies, fudge, muffins – all right then!

But you’ll lose all of your gainz bro!!! Pushing through never works and you just prolong it. Body’s priority is to get rid of the illness and gaining muscle is even less of a priority from a survival perspective. Takes years to learn that. Plus, keep your lurgy to yourself.
Get the onesie on, get the hot lemons in and stick on The Nutty Professor. ‘Yes I can!’ Get well soon dude.

Sounds like a lot of NEAT activity there. Had the tunes blaring out too right?

I remember my teen years, even though it was over a decade ago. You think life is so hard as a teen haha. Not cool enough to go out with your daughter and her friends then?

Oooo tell me more about this chilli. Any sauces, sides, spice level?

Off plan meals – do love a good burger and fries. An Italian meal with an anti-pasti board – olives, cured meats, cheeses, breads and balsamic dip. Love going out for a Thai meal too. Cheesecake is my fav and always my birthday cake. Ohhh I miss off plan food. Holding out to Xmas.

Good ol’ discounts. Hope you treated yourself to something nice as well.

The amount of time you devote to your clients is incredible and a real testament to your love of bodybuilding. You could argue that people are paying for a service, however a large chunk of ‘coaches’ or self proclaimed ‘gurus’ haven’t a clue how to form a trusting relationship. The answer is always max out the drugs which would work for anyone and is in no way the barometer of a good coach.

Essentially both of you are life coaches – you deal with our ups, downs, doubts and everything in between as well as training and nutrition. That in itself is not only physically taxing, but mentally exhausting too. You wouldn’t change it for the world though I bet! Also with Corinne’s journey, I bet that has been an emotional one.

From your previous posts and videos, there does appear to be a lot of ‘meh’ sessions aside from the last pull session. Maybe you just need someone to out leg press you again! Still, your ‘meh’ sessions are still 100x more intense than most people’s all out haha.

Sounds like a good way to spend the evening. Everything sounds under control and the hard work is done. As Clare has said, it has come about so quickly and I bet you have barely processed that you are a pro, let alone rubbing elbows with your idols. Enjoy every moment and the let the birthday/ turning pro celebrations begin. Also, Xmas!! Get the yule log out!
All the best – we are so proud of you????

Haha I didn’t notice it was the Scott Ball. Crazy stuff.

Line 6 are very underrated but they make some lovely gear and it’s so compact + reasonably priced. I can’t remember which line 6 pod I purchased but loved it. You sold some of your babies!? Feel for you.

Some good shouts there. Cliff Button had some amazing lines. For whom the bell rolls still one of my top riffs. Used to hate Muse, but love them now because of Chris’ playing style. A real degree eh?I’m sure a lot of people are happy your parents pushed you towards that degree.

It’s true that you can learn a lot from injuries. Rather than dwell on the injury, use it as an opportunity to re-evaluate and research why it occurred. I am currently battling with a shoulder impingement so am actively strengthening the supporting muscles. In addition, adjusting my posture when walking and sitting. I’m a desk jockey myself so was thinking of a standing desk there is a tendency to slouch. Don’t get me wrong I do get bummed with the injury, but am being more proactive. I miss my early 20s where I was invincible.

It’s ironic – when I was younger, I scoffed at prevention exercises and when the older gents would suggest it, I just pish poshed the advice. Now I see people at that age I was neglecting the minor things or the other extreme is a 45 minute warm-up essentially pre-exhausting the stabilisers. Always learning aren’t we and that’s why I love this sport!

Hah I know Ernie Ball strings when I hear them! Ah, so you do. Fender Jazz isn’t really made for slap but such a lovely smooth neck and 24 frets, beautiful. That reminds me that I need to get mine serviced. Ah, did you ask Santa for that? What pedal set up do you have? Love the wah wah for dirty funk, especially Sir Psycho Sexy. Flea is my bass idol!
Nice. Obviously with your neck it has been difficult I bet to train all out. Although I guess with the slightly reduced load, you’ll feel it and be more conscious of perfect form. Lucky boy, my squat machine handles only four 25s a side. Even with bands, nowhere near enough.

Hey James. Off season seems to be coming into full effect. Around the 270ish Mark already – nice. Refreshing to see that you keep cardio in Off season as well. I like to keep moving, whether it’s NEAT or just a big walk. Therapeutic every time and helps to mull things over.
How’s the shoulder doing now? Guessing it’s a case of active recovery and finding the movements that minimise aggravating the injury.

Hiya Dean. Have been looking through several of your posts over time, both in your log and from your responses. Damn, you know your shizz! The thorough answers you give and the level of details are second to none. Also, being a fellow bass player marks you as alright in my books. See you have a Stingray. Do I detect Ernie Ball strings as well? Had my eyes on a Stingray for a while, but settled on a Fender Jazz.
It looks as though everything is firing for you at the mo and everything is optimal. Did you have any major plans for this offseason? Guessing strength is a big goal as noticed on the gram, you mentioned about a nine plate a side machine squat!

Good man. Like you said, pro card is priority. Soon you’ll be able to compete in the open classic with that waist. Show Ryan how it’s done!

Paused rdl. – that’s a killer. Big fan of Yates deadlifts. Remember you guys had banded deadlifts in for a while. Had them programmed in for a while but the cns sure took a beating!

Good to see you champ. And we love having you down at Primitive! Everything is still popping and condition is holding well. Looks like there will be tons of room to push up.
Oooo sounds interesting. Any plans to do a big push up again (remember you saying it was around 15kg last time) or are you staying relatively close to stage weight?

All looks good mate. When your ready to drop the hammer, all that prep will be worth it. Obviously your primary focus has been bringing down your waist and improving your glutes, all while getting to all out strength at a lower bw. In terms of a 400kg, so you think down the road you’ll work towards that goal? Obviously after you’ve won the Mr Olympia ???? just watching you deadlift is a thing of beauty – the mechanics are just so natural. I remember reading you were coached from a very early age about perfect technique.
