If you’re worried about CVD risk because of “high Cholesterol”, ask your Doc to send you for a Carotid Ultrasound and/or CAC Score and/or Echocardiogram! If you are prepared to do the research, you’ll discover that Lipid Tests tell you very little about your CVD Risk. My lipids are all over the place (i.e. so called “bad”) and my GP wanted to put me on Statins and change my diet etc but I convinced my GP of the above and after doing a CAC Score and Echocardiogram he said I had very little to worry about.

Remember that “those who propose a drug therapy have the obligation to defend it by providing sound studies demonstrating statistically significant benefit (because all drugs have side effects). Those who promote statins have never satisfactorily done that. And they are the ones who cherry-pick the studies to support the results they seek. If you actually read the studies they offer in support of statin therapy and drill down into the data (as opposed to accepting at face value the abstracts where the authors of the study say what has been proved), you would see that…reliable double-blind placebo-controlled primary prevention studies (i.e. using subjects who have not had a heart attack but simply have elevated lipid levels) of significant size have not been able to reliably demonstrate a statistically significant reduction in all-cause mortality from the use of statins. Statins unquestionably lower total cholesterol and LDL. Since that lowering does not produce a statistically significant reduction in all-cause mortality in primary prevention, it must follow that such elevated serum lipoprotein levels, in and of themselves, do not increase mortality risk. They may be a marker of disease (and I’m not even so certain of that), but not a cause. This is another way of saying correlation does not prove causation (although lack of correlation does prove lack of causation).”

New Research (Re)Confirms We Got Cholesterol All Wrong

A comprehensive new study on cholesterol, based on results from more than a million patients, could help upend decades of government advice about diet, nutrition, health, prevention, and medication.

“No evidence exists to prove that having high levels of bad cholesterol causes heart disease, leading physicians have claimed”

    https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/17512433.2018.1519391?scroll=top&needAccess=true

“I recommend that those interested in this general topic read Dr. Malcolm Kendrick’s series on What Causes Heart Disease (now on Part 56). Not only does it have a lot of great information, it provides a great lesson in how to look at a complicated problem.”

“It’s encouraging to see the paper above getting widespread visibility since the data has been around for a long time. I would add that even if LDL was a problem, that doesn’t mean lowering it will be helpful, and the studies that have looked at all-cause mortality for Statins have consistently found very little (IMO zero) benefit.”

It’s high time doctors started reading and studying this vital information.

I’m not entirely sure if there is anything “natural” besides food that will optimize muscle gain (muscle hypertrophy) after a contest prep that will be of any significant or noticeable benefit but I stand to be corrected. There are obviously natural supplements that will help with performance assuming you are talking about performance in the gym? i.e. Pre-workout supps like caffeine and/or Yohimbe etc plus creatine. My guess is that the goal after a contest prep is to (a) reduce muscle catabolism while (b) increasing muscle anabolism and the only thing I can think of is to either follow a proper PCT or “bridge” on a TRT dosage – both certainly not natural. Just my 2 cents. (I apologize in advance if I’m preaching to the choir or if I’ve misunderstood you!) JP covers all this here on this site.

Yes I most certainly have gained a larger weight and gotten leaner.

As mentioned above, when I stopped training and taking low dose PEDs somewhere in the middle of the 27 years, I lost all my gains and dropped from 90 kgs to 69 kgs which is what I weighed in school. That’s a 21 kgs (46 lbs) drop in weight.

When I went back on I gained everything back in a very short time thanks to muscle memory.

Things started getting sloppy over the last few years which saw my BF % increase slightly and my weight dropping about 2 kgs.

About 2 years ago at the start of blasting and cruising I was about 88 kgs at 22% BF. At the end of my first blast I was 88 kgs at 14% BF. I basically gained 7 kgs of lean mass while losing 7 kgs of fat.

I’m currently 90 kgs and a bit leaner but I am not sure what my BF% is though. I’m still aiming for 90 kgs < 10% BF but I think I need a coach for this. Put it this way, since starting my blast on 1st Oct, almost daily someone I’ve not seen in a while tells me I’m looking leaner but yet my scale remains the same.

Guys, please do not for one second think that I am saying that if you follow exactly what I did (do) then you too will be healthy after 27 years of use! You and I have no clue how your body will react. The best advice I can give you if you decide to go the PED route is exactly what JP says and that’s (1) Do it in increments (2) Monitor your health via regular blood work including kidney and liver function tests (3) Stay away from the harsh compounds (4) At certain points in your progression check your heart health via EKG, CAC Score and Electrocardiogram and possibly a Stress Test. (5) An anti-inflammatory diet is key to good health (6) Take OTC supplements for heart health like the ones mentioned above in my original post and others mentioned by JP. (7) Don’t drink alcohol in excess (8) Don’t smoke (9) Don’t take recreational drugs (10) Don’t take non steroidal anti-inflammatory pain killers for longer than what the package insert says.

Not that I can tell James. Well I’d say modest or very little scare tissue if anything. But then again I’ve never looked at or felt another guys ass for comparison purposes. 90% plus of my injections have been split between my left and right butt cheek. Some in shoulders and the rest in my pecs with an insulin needle. I have never tried my lats. I have tried my quads but I couldn’t walk without pain for a few days so I stopped pinning my quads.

You’re welcome. “Off” in the first 25 years was “off” completely. I didn’t even do PCT on those low doses. Just did 20 mg Tamoxifen per day if I felt my nipples getting sensitive. The first few weeks were hell trying to stay motivated to go to gym. In hindsight, I would have done full PCT with HCG and Clomid. For the last 2 years I’ve done blast and cruise so as you know there is no PCT required.

Jan, I seriously struggle with trying to consume food. I feel 9 months pregnant after eating which last the whole day. I’ve tried cutting out all foods that bloat me and it has helped somewhat. But at 48 years old and only 168 cm (5’6″) I don’t really care about going over 90 kgs anymore. I just want to stay at 90 kgs and be my best at that weight and maybe compete in a year or two. Danny Hester at my height only weighs 80 kgs. (Not that I could EVER compare myself to Danny who’s a legend!)

You’re welcome guys but please understand that I 100% believe it’s the other parts mentioned above that have kept things healthy. i.e. Good Diet, no other drugs, not overdoing PEDs, no smoking, no excessive drinking, good heart healthy OTC supplements and also the Pauling Therapy – the whole combination! The way I’ve done it means I’ve added at least 22 kgs of lean mass to my frame and stayed pretty healthy doing it. The last 8 kgs was added in late 2015/early 2016 following a very low volume/high frequency program similar to JP’s while eating only 2000 calories per day. I lost 8 kgs of fat and gained 8 kgs of muscle over about 16 to 20 weeks and have retained all of it. Well it drops off a just bit on the cruise but within about 4 – 6 weeks of a blast it’s all back up again. Mind you I cruised for about 6 months recently. I think if I reduced my cruise to about 2 months then I’d hardly lose any of the gains put on during the blast.

I get it from 300 mg Deca/week but not from Equi at 400mg or more per week.

Wow, thanks for the feedback Rotties and suggestions on dropping BP.

Noted re cutting and not bulking cycle.

Well done. 90 kgs lean at our height is a good look so why the heck do we want to get bigger LOL 😉

I’m currently at 14% BF 90kgs so not where I’d like to be! I’d like to be below 10% BF at 90kgs on a cruise.

I’m currently on a lean bulk so at the end of Oct I should be closer to my goal but maybe slightly heavier however that’ll be fine. I only plan on competing late 2018 if I can stand on stage shredded at 49 years old at around 90 kgs. It’ll be my first time in 29 years of training.

I’m currently on 2500 calories a day so I know that I have to get those calories up quite a bit to grow. My problem (aka excuse) is that almost any starch makes me look and feel 11 months pregnant if you know what I mean! I aim for 40-50 grams carbs, 40 grams protein and 17 grams fat per meal – 500 calories per meal.

Side note: Under Phil Hernon, last year on max 750mg gear a week I went from 88kgs at 22% BF to 88 kgs 14% BF on just 2,000 calories which I was well pleased with! 90% of carbs was fruit and veggies.

Anyway, thanks for your feedback. Much appreciated.

LOL, I agree staying off (cruising) that long does suck!

Rotties, managing to stay in range while on gear sounds pretty impressive. On gear my HDL drops and LDL increases and my triglycerides increase too. I have however started similar supplements but not tried garlic, Citrus Bergamot, Red Yeast Rice extract or COQ10 yet. Dr Dean says he’ll be posting his lipid sups list soon so am looking forward to that. Krill Oil for lipids looks interesting. See here: http://www.rejuvenation-science.com/topics/cholesterol-lipids

If you don’t mind me asking, what dosages of NPP, Mast and Var were you on? Sounds like a pretty lean bulk cycle considering the PED’s you were using.

I’m a Test C (@ 400 – 500mg/week) and Deca or Eqi (@ 300 – 500 mg/week) blast kinda guy. But for the life of me I cant get over 90 kgs at 5’7″ due to not eating enough. I was 69kgs when not training etc. I hate food LOL but will force feed myself starting today. Well my coach told me last night to start force feeding myself if I want to grow. (Sorry, went off track there.)

Your BP sounds pretty decent too. Very nice! On or off I can’t get my BP lower than 125/82 which my doc says is fine. Well it does sometimes go up to 145/95 while on but then it can drop to just below 120/80 also. i.e. It’s all over the place but on average it’s okay! (Oh, I may as well mention I’m an A type personality which apparently does affect BP)
