Back on the work grind again today. Love a Monday, full of possibilities and opportunities for the new week. Important to get off to a good start and set the tone for the week ahead. Really wanting to hammer business for the next few weeks before I go away on holiday and put my feet up ahead of prep starting. I like to really earn my break and feel I’ve worked hard for it.

Had the evening chilling and watching the rest of Ted Bundy series. Would be such an interesting industry to work in if you’re involved in law. Especially the psychology part. If the mortgage industry dries up ever then I know what I’m training in!!

@drdeanstmart gave me some very useful advice on this exact thing when I’d been sick for a week. I tried eating ‘big’ to ‘gain’ the weight back but Dean rightly advised this wasn’t the correct way to go about it. He advised small amounts steadily as you start recovering. I can’t go into the science of it but I imagine it’s along the lines of not stressing the stomach/digestive system etc.

Another nice relaxing day today. Easy start to the day just doing a few house bits then headed over to Meadowhall for some shopping. Always enjoyed a bit of shopping, probably from being dragged round shops as a kid so just got used to it. And it’s like to set a challenge these days, to see how many brands I can grow out of !!

Spent the rest of the day/evening food prepping and watching a Netflix series. Really into my crime documentaries and series. Just watched Line of Duty and started the Ted Bundy documentary tonight. Crazy how the mind can lead people to do these things.

Hey Tim hope all is well, what signs would you normally look for when needing to rest? I myself have probs pushed when rest would have been better, also tried that close grip row I saw on your insta and it felt amazing so thanks

    For that!

Hey mate, really well thank you. Hope you’re good too.

For me the tell tale signs would be stalling on exercises more than once, feeling very tired and lethargic, reduced energy and drive going into sessions, feeling under the weather and things like mouth ulcers which I tend to get when I’m run down. I’ve had all of these things over the last week or two so it was definitely time to rest and recover.

Yeah that close grip is a real nice attachment. The movement feels more natural for me in that position. I’ll keep adding more videos of other exercises if it’s useful. I tend to just post mostly leg sessions for some reason.

Glad to hear it, I’m good also thanks, I’ll deffo keep note on those signs and look out for them in the future.

yeah first time I’ve tried that close grip and it felt more natural for me also and the connection and pump I felt on the first set was ridiculous so will keeping it in rotation now.

haha I’d probs post leg stuff too if I could hit 7 plate hacks for reps, I deffo find them useful and just super motivating to watch so I’m sure other people would benefit from them as well[/quote]
Yeah keep a close eye on how you’re feeling on a weekly basis and how performance levels are. Make the smart choices as there is nothing ‘hardcore’ about running ourselves into the ground.

Haha just got to try match those kind of numbers with upper training sessions. Once this deload/rest period is over I’ll get some more content up.

    Keeping grinding hard man !!

For me personally I’ve never swapped solely to white fish. Protein sources have always stayed mixed (red and white meat, white fish, fatty fish etc). A lot of people choose fish for digestion purposes so I guess if it’s easier to digest then coming up to a show this would be a benefit if you’re wanting to make the waist as small as possible.

Nice chilled day today. Bit of a lie in then a wander into town for some summer shopping and a coffee. Watched the FA cup final with the fam in the afternoon. Great win for City so very happy. Then the evening spent with friends having a bbq.

Body is already starting to feel fresher and more relaxed.

Go in slowly. Pull back slightly to check for blood entering obviously, inject, leave in for a good 5-10 secs then pull out.

Another rest again today. And a nice end to the week at work. Ramping things up a bit more before I take a break in June for a holiday and before prep starts. Like to keep busy at work during prep too as helps focus my mind and stops me stressing about how I’m looking and feeling etc.

Tomorrow is FA cup final day so will be hoping for win for City. Bit of shopping before that to top up the summer wardrobe. Always a risk though buying at end of offseason as it’ll all be too baggy by time diet kicks in mid summer!!

Rest day today. Definitely need this and glad I’ve got someone as smart as Jordan to guide me with these decisions. So many people, me included without Jordan’s guidance, would have kept pushing on and run yourself into the ground. Recognising the signs is important and then being strict with yourself and not ignoring them.

I like to put my efforts into pushing things at work as I need to be kept busy but also added things such as meditation and breathing exercises in the evenings as well as walks along the river near my house. Find it very peaceful and relaxing being by the water. I want my body to feel completely recharged and ready to push on again. So I use the time away from the gym wisely.

In my opinion when wanted to build it you need both. Control over the weight but the weight needs to progressively get heavier. You will be growing then as the numbers will be going up. Purposely keeping weight ‘easy’ just to play around and over exaggerate contractions etc probably wouldn’t be beneficial in my opinion. Unless working around an injury and having to pull back for a short period.

Rest day today so just work and then chilled this evening watching Generation Iron 3. Was interesting to watch as there was a section discussing men’s physique and the ‘legs’ debate. A lot of bodybuilding competitors will say men’s physique competitors have it easy and it doesn’t count because they don’t train legs. In my opinion they go through the same process of dieting down to get the level of conditioning they need and this requires dedication, sacrifice and suffering. Just like bodybuilding. They aren’t marked on their legs so why would they hammer them? Concentrate on the areas you are marked on. A cyclist wouldn’t build their upper body as this doesn’t benefit them for what they’re doing. Men’s physique is the same. Work on what actually is needed. And from having trained with a few men’s physique competitors I can tell you these guys hit it just as hard. There are physique competitors who train half arsed but that doesn’t mean all do.

Anyway that’s my view on that. Going to have another rest day tomorrow and probably will until the end of the week to give the body a break. Following the bosses advice.

Perseverance!! Arms have never been a ‘strength’ for me and still aren’t. But through frequently hitting them and not throwing a tonne of volume at them in just one session they are responding. I’ve placed a couple of biceps movements before leg sessions and end of push sessions last prep with triceps hit at the end of pull session. I’ve added bicep and tricep movements at the end of both push and pull sessions this offseason. This has allowed the arms to be hit more frequently over the week and total volume has been there, just not hammered in one session only. I’ve been able to get stronger this way and arms have started to grow.

Certain exercises will also help if for instance you need more peak or more thickness.

Push session rotation 2 went down this morning. The main ‘big’ movements in this session were machine shoulder press and low incline smith press. Progressed machine shoulder press by 5kg and hit 8 reps (8-10 was target range). Very pleased. Low incline press was then matched. The rest of the workout I was able to progress on all other exercises. However, due to the fact that low incline press stalled has lead a decision to be made to deload for a week. I was talking to Jordan about pushing on until my holiday in middle of June but Jordan wisely advised against this as would just end up going backwards and be completely wiped out with sessions being poor. This is where it is SO important to have someone with real experience and understanding of training and how the body will respond to spot these signs of fatigue before they get worse.

Normal diet will be followed unless it were decided to completely rest in which case we have previously just followed rest day meals on each day where there has been no training.
