Hi mate

What you’ve just described is progression all round

You’ve said everything is, at the minimum, moving up in reps – Thts progress!

Be really careful not to rush this, really like that you’re properly microloading, that will serve you well long term

In terms of should you progress in a deficit, I would say if everything is on point, yes, until you hit a certain point.

Don’t limit yourself with expecting not to progress until it’s a reality deeeeeep into the diet.

Sounds like you’re doing everything well mate, so stay on it

Hi Rich, thank you for your answer….That helps a lot, I was just woried because i noticed on my push focussed upper, my smith incline bench has stalled for 2 weeks (both times i got 6, the only small difference i noticed is that the last two reps, 5thand 6th were somewhat easier but i still did not have enough in me to pull the 7th off, same goes for dips, this one might be more of my fault tho haha, went for a 0,5kg more and did 6 reps instead of 7 which aint shabby, but on 5th rep i lost my balance a bit and decided to put my foot up to restabilize myself and then went for 6th which i barely got, was happy anyways)…But hey i guess considering your answer i should just take my time and progress slowly and overally at the minimum if i cant with the weight, thanks once more mate 🙂

Also forgot to add, more exercises are progressing just in reps or rather stalling (smith incline bench, shoulder press dips etc)

I think a video would be helpful mate, I’m struggling to understand why this is such a problem.

I have the same session again in 5 days and I will try to film a video then…Meanwhile I can try to explain what happened yesterday while squatting if that might help you…So I started the top set, did the first 2 reps which went quite smoothly snd gave me a good feel that i might manage 7 with 1kg increase but on 3rd rep as I came down the bar started sliding down my back which caused me hella discomfort and also pushed my chest down as if I was trying to good mornings and not parallel squats for quads and after that one i just decided to stop the set on 3 reps…Did the back off set 5 minutes after that with 105 for 7 but the same problem with the back discomfort remained

Hey Toni! Have you got a video, this might help us understand a little more and then we can advise?

Sadly I don’t, will have to wait for next Lower Session with squats to film it..

have you tried putting something on the bar itself to make it sit better/more comfortably

I did, felt the same sadly (tried with towel and pad)

Hi Toni, it sounds like it was ok for the set on 122.5kg?

Hey Rich, it wasn’t really, it still didn’t feel comfortable but last time I somehow got through it, it also doesn’t feel comfortable on the bar alone and the warmups too…Shoulder mobility also ain’t the problem as much as I checked..Im thinking it must be because the machine is angled (LifeFitness Smith) but honestly I don’t know…
Obvious question…. Have you tried it both ways?
I did, didn’t feel anything better

Without seeing visual pictures (which is fine if you don’t feel comfortable) 5 months is a long time staying in a surplus so it’s natural some extra bodyfat will have appeared. Before dieting I would run a 4-6 weeks holding phase to let the new muscle tissue stick around without pushing bodyweight higher, and then go into a diet phase.

    Thanks for the tip.

From what you describe yourself , I would recommend a tidy up phase

Post some pics as visuals are always best

I dont really feel comfortable with that, sorry. But looking at myself I do agree with you, the 10 week cut would actually bring me more good than another 3 months of bulking..
