First and foremost instead of compromising training and figuring out how to train around it why not just figure out if something is actually wrong with the knee via a PT and potentially a scan
And then take the steps to rehab and prehab it which takes effort outside of training via mobility work etc

I would put it in legs. Also big big impact on building my adductors has been training myself to use full range of motion in compound movements

If you’re progressing In training and recovery is good, then look at your diet and make sure it is suitable to the goal of building muscle and covers your output for both training and work demand, are you in a caloric surplus?

Ultimately If you’re tracking your progression in photos and tracking training performance, the scale is just another tool. So analyze all three for your decision making

Waking up to pee in the night is normal for me. But if it’s bothering you and you can’t fall back asleep just try getting your water intake in sooner in the day and not drinking much a few hours before bed

Have you tried anything to help it? Via Elimination of foods, etc?

If you go through an elimination diet and still have issues you can try doing a GI map test

    Saturday 1/25/25

Got in for the insurance approved mri with contrast at the dr today so hopefully more answers and direction to come this coming week.

That’s the worst part about healthcare in the US, you have to wait so long for health insurance company to approve Dr visits, then wait for the appointment, then request mri approval, wait for appointment, then you’re 4 weeks later finally getting imagine done

    Friday 1/24/25

10 min recumbent bike, followed by attempting to do lying leg curls with the lightest weight, which I was able to do without restriction, which for the first 3 weeks I was unable to bend the knee enough to even attempt it. Leg extension and body weight squat are not possible yet

    Hey Michaela,

I’m a physician and I’m wondering if the massage/body work may have irritated or torn your meniscus. The body generally does a pretty good job healing these over time but if there’s catching and locking of the knee, that would warrant surgery. Sorry to hear you’re dealing with this. Your form when training is very controlled and impeccable. I don’t think it was your training that caused this

Hey Steve! Thank you for your input! I did a self pay mri 5 days after and it showed my meniscus was intact and cartilage also good, but it showed what they call a tumor in the knee, so that is why I had to do another mri with contrast so they could better see what is going on.

I’m very aware of every little feeling in my training and I never once felt a point of injury, it only happened directly after the massage work. And bad enough to keep me completely out of training as I have no ability to use the knee

I had the second mri today so hopefully within this next week will have some more answers!

    10 min slow recumbent bike

Well, unfortunately my next mri that was supposed to be today got canceled because the machine was down, but it is rescheduled for Saturday as long as it is up and running.

I’ve been waiting it out before saying anything, but it’s been over 3 weeks now so I’ll just go ahead and say what’s been going on. 3 weeks ago I got my normal body work/massage therapy work and directly after my knee was aching for the rest of the day, and within 2 days I was unable to bend it. I did a self pay mri and it showed a tumor on my knee, so I had an appointment with a surgeon to discuss the situation/options, and we ordered another mri this time with contrast and at their facility to have a better picture of what is going on and then we will go from there.
Since then I have just been waiting on insurance approval for the mri, scheduling, and now rescheduling. Whilst still unable to use my knee other than a very slow short morning recumbent bike the past week, which the first week I couldn’t even begin to try that.

It’s a crazy freak scenario that I genuinely don’t know how it happened. Training had been going the best it ever has and was making crazy progress with both physique and in training. And I am very very aware of every little feeling and sense in training and I never felt a single sign of anything negative. So I really have no explanation other than like I said just a freak thing.
