Body was happy to have a rest day today. Hamstrings were especially sore this morning.
Got an hours walk done with the dogs and spent some time in the hot tub this evening.
Heavy session tomorrow with loading, shield walk, deadlift and stone for reps

Gog old events session today. Kicked off with the fingals finger for some reps which was frustrating at first as I was all over the place but I sorted my shit out for eye final sets. Then onto some conans wheel, bag toss and stones with all felt great. Need to get in there and give the stones a clean as the tacky was getting a bit clogged with some dust and/or dirt.
Fingals finger – lots of singles then 3x3flips
Conans wheel – 3×3 revolutions with more weight than last week
Bag toss – a couple of runs with 20/20/25/27kg over 4.5m barrier
Stones – several one motions with the 150Half to hold myself back on stones as it’s only my second week bad doing them so next week I’ll look to go up to the 180 then a short run with the 100/120/130/150.
Body is ready for a rest day tomorrow

Managed to get some lower done today. No squats obviously so went with the leg press as my primary movement. Didn’t want to load a lot of plates on it and I needed to deload the deep flexion portion so I went with some band tension and pre fatigued leg extensions beforehand. Worked up with sets of 10 which is not something I would usually do but as I was looking to limit load this week it was applicable to the situation. Worked to a challenging set of 10 then dropped the weight for 3 sets of paused reps and a 20rep set.
Leg extensions – 4×12
Leg press – top set of 10, 3×6 paused and 1×20
45deg back extension – 2 work sets
Prone leg curl – 2 work sets
Calf raise – 2 work setsThat was it. Bulk of the work done on the leg press and a good reintroduction to lower.
Main events tomorrow at the farm

Second rest day completed. We’re having a new kitchen put in at home and it’s made me realise how much time I spend in there each day haha.
One of the features of the new kitchen is a much bigger fridge freezer so more room for the necessary bulk buy meats.
Tomorrow is lower body but no squats for me. Going to be focusing on the leg press for a while as it will be safer for my TFL. We don’t have a squat at WSM this year so it’s not essential that I train the movement until the start of may.

Got some rehab work done on my knee today. Daily isometrics and using the game ready are going to have to happen to settle this down I think. TFL still feels sore I’m certain movements which isn’t ideal. Seeing my physio tomorrow though.
I got my supplements order today with a couple of new TBJP products that’s I’m adding to the stack in the build up to WSM. Peak Aminos are going into my intra workout now that the sessions are longer and peak hydration will be added first thing in the morning. Excited to try these new products.
Another rest day tomorrow before a new training week starts for me.

Much better press session this week. Knee and TFL managed to hold it together for some push press action on the log and Circus DB press. I warmed up for a good 30min before even lifting the empty log. The longer you do strongman for the longer your warm up becomes haha. When I was younger I could just jump right into log press but not now.
Also got to grips with using my left arm for the circus DB press which felt weird but by the 10th set it was working for me.
Log press – 145×4
Circus DB Press 67x10x1
High Incline Bench 135×4 122.5×4 110×4
Dips x7 x14
Chest press 3×12
DB lateral raise 3×12
Pressdowns 3×12
Tricep hell 2 sets -
Proper day’s training today. Started at the farm for bag toss and shield walk then back home for deadlifts, stone over bar and pull accessories:
Bag toss – 5×2 (20kg)
Shield walk – 3x20m w/turn
Deadlift – 357.5×4
Stone over bar – 3×5 (one motions)
CG Pulldown 3×12
Seated row 3×12
High incline DB CSR 3×12Knee and TFL a little bit sore today especially after the shield walk so need to manage them this week to ensure we don’t get any issues.

Rest day
TFL and patella tendon actually feel better today after yesterday’s events which is a big plus. Hopefully it’s settling down and I’ll be on for a big training week. New movements to re-introduce and some heavier loads to be lifted.
Training earlier tomorrow so it’s a 10am start at the farm for two events before I head back to the gym for the remainder of my session.

First events session of the WSM prep and it felt like a proper strongman session again. All new movements so nothing heavy today plus my TFL and patella tendon are still healing up so wanted to back off the weights and focus on some volume and technique. I will also usually be doing loading in this session but since I’ve been hitting that event hard for Brits prep I dropped it today.
Conans wheel – 3 sets of 3 revolutions
Fingals fingers – 6 flips plus 5×2 on “finger cleans”
Stone one motions – 120kg for 6 singles -
Back in the barn today for a light lower session. Limited on exercises as I needed to limits range of motion to avoid stressing my TFL so I stuck to high rep leg presses, DB RDLs and seated leg curls.
All felt ok and I’m ready for tomorrow’s events session.

Hi Adam,
Congratulations on BSM well deserved and good to see after injury 👍
How would you train for an elevated deadlift (12′). Would you drop out standard deadlifts. Any particular assistance exercises?
Also would you reccomend any coaches with similar philosophy to you? Simon yates maybe?
Thanks
Thanks Nick!
Depends on experience level really. For example I would just train from the floor however if you’re not used to pulling from 12” (I assume you mean 12” and not 12’ which is 12 foot haha) then I would put the 12” pulls in as the primary movement then drop down to the floor and perform some lighter pulls for more reps as a secondary exercise. That way you’re getting used to the comp height while also training the more common standard height deadlift.
Yep Simon Yates is a great choice – we share a lot of the same philosophies.

Rest day for me so here’s how my training split has changed in prep for Europes and Worlds strongest man:
Monday – Bag toss, shield walk, deadlift, stones, back accessory
Tuesday – circus DB, Log Press, press accessory
Wednesday – off
Thursday – off
Friday – truck pull and legs
Saturday – conans wheel, fingals finger, loading, stones, additional tricep work
Sunday – offGetting my body prepared for back to back competition days. Also a much higher focus on my competitive exercises as some of my “gym lifts” drop in volume.

I’m a big fan of high incline chest supported DB rows with varying grips (pronated, 45deg and neutral) you will get some trap involvement but I’m ok with that.

Saw my physio this morning and he think my TFL tear will settle down in 10-14 days so good news. For now I can train around it starting with my press session:
Strict log Press 137.5×5 125×5 110×5
High Incline Bench Press 130×5 117.5×5 105×5
Seated DB Press 2 sets
Dips 2 sets
Chest press 3×12
DB Lateral Raise 3×12
Pressdowns 3×12Also got some soft tissue work done today. Body is a bit beat up but felt better for getting some work in.
-
No training today just rest and getting my food in. Body is ok apart from my knee and TFL pain.
Physio tomorrow so we will know what we are dealing with. Only 11 weeks till WSM so need to get back in the gym. It will likely be a modified session tomorrow with strict log and seated DB press rather than push press log and circus DB but we’ll get it done.
