Body is feeling much better after this week’s deload – I’m feeling ready to push the events session tomorrow.

Got my morning cardio done and a sauna session today. It’s all about stringing perfect days together now for the final 3 weeks

Yep totally agree with Meg here in regards to getting into good habits with your pre bed routine.

Also check that the room is dark and the right temperature for yourself and avoid the blue light from your phone in the build up to going to sleep. All the standard stuff.

I do have a serving of Halcyon with my dream sleep each night 20-30mins before going to bed and that combo has done wonders for my sleep quality.

If you are doing everything correctly and still struggling you could look to have a sleep study done. The cost of these has dropped in recent years, can be done from home and will give you a better answer to why you’re waking up so much.

I’ve done all of these things including a sleep study and still have very disruptive sleep. Is there anything else you think I should try?[/quote]
Yeah I would be interested in knowing what the company that provided the sleep study suggested the root problem was?

If they literally went “yep you have very disruptive sleep” I would say they are not a good company.

When I did my sleep study and they discovered my sleep apnea they first suggested a gumshield which opened my airway. When that didn’t work we went for the CPAP machine which was the best decision ever.

Before the CPAP I would have around 18-23 disturbances a night and never had more than 20min deep sleep. Now I have the CPAP I have 3-7 disturbances (sleeping through the night most nights) and my deep sleep is in the hours.

Yes absolutely. Strength is only measured by the the loads lifted in the exercises we perform and the only two factors that change when on a cut would be the slight change in mechanical advantage in certain lifts through the drop of bodyfat and energy levels.

Focusing your carbohydrate levels around your sessions will sort your energy levels.

Remember the main factors of increasing strength (neural adaptations, muscle cross sectional area and lift/muscle coordination) are unaffected by a cut when performed correctly.

Ultimately it comes down to your mental approach to it. If your training changes when you cut then you will have problems but there should be no reason to change your approach and you should still be able to strive for lift progression.

Quality recovery day for me today, nothing is hurting that much thanks to the deload doing it’s job so far.

Morning cardio followed by massage and sauna session. Also had a good sports psychology session where we started to build my mental game plan for WSM. Prepping for 12 events is tough enough but factor in that you are having to plan for the unknown in terms of the finer details and it can be stressful. Finished the call with a clear path through the group stages and we will be planning the final next time.

I’m on a deload week this week as the signs of wear and tear are starting to show. This week will be lighter then I’ll have the final 3 weeks loading up to WSM.

Yesterday was my pull day which was a speed pull focus. Back on the deadlift bar which felt great.

    Speed Pulls 270x8x2
    Paused Leg Press 400x4x5
    Seated Leg Curl 4×8-12

    Sunday tractor pull.

We have a truck pull at WSM and the only way to train for it is to get out there and pull trucks. Every pull is different so I try and pull as many different vehicles in my prep with different wheels, number of axles, weights and change the slope I’m pulling on.

Yesterday we pulled a 10 ton tractor – tractors are always a tough pull due to the large wheels and the mechanical resistance from the differentials etc. But we got a good couple of pulls in and the watt bike sessions are certainly helping my pull!

Finished up there and it was back to the barn for my upperbody volume work.

Pretty much my perfect Sunday – pulling trucks, getting a pump then sitting back in the garden grilling meat as the sun went down ??

Added a seated leg curl the the home gym today so a little road trip to pick it up.

Originally I was going to put it in storage for a future space but I think it might fit in what is now an over full barn but we’ll move some things around in the morning and see if can make it fit.

Truck/tractor pull lined up for tomorrow which will be brutal!

    Friday’s events session

Loaded up 600kg of weight plates onto the truck and took them down to Surrey sports park to used the concrete steps again for some powerstairs work. This was brutal this week especially with the larger plates and deeper steps. Back to the farm after this to get some medley and stones work in.

Powerstairs 4 sets of 12 steps with 3x200kg
Medley 3 sets of 125 bag carry into 320 yoke
    Stones – 130 and 150kg run ins

    No it’s absolutely fine.

As a strength athlete my rest sets are a little longer than some others on here and I can’t say “switched on” the whole time otherwise I would burn out.

Being able to relax between sets is essential IMO but you have to know how to turn it on and bring the intensity when it’s time to lift.

    Hi Jake

There are a lot of roles in the “Fitness” space with different qualification requirements.

As the other guys have said PT earnings depend on experience and expertise so when you start out your initial earnings may be low and your hours long until you build a client base and reputation within the industry. The biggest thing here is to start coaching people and improve your coaching skills. PT courses are not expensive so you can start earning straight away which is a big bonus.

With the introduction of online training I would be focusing on bucking the trend and offering a more personal service. I see this kind of service as a way of charging a premium for your time long run.

Another route is into professional strength and conditioning within a sports team or individual athlete. This is a very tough field to get into with many people being drawn to the bright lights of coaching pro athletes without realising the pay is not what they expect and the hours are long. Job satisfaction is very high though.

To undertake this kind of work you will need two things to be considered by an employer:

    1. A degree in sports science or equivalent course

    2. A portfolio of previous coaching experience.

There is obviously a much bigger time and financial commitment in this field so beware. Also be aware of “strength and conditioning” courses advertised online. To a professional sporting outfit these do not mean much without studying to a degree level.

Whichever way you go it’s going to require a lot of hard work but it is truly satisfying seeing people achieve their goals whatever they may be and knowing you helped them in some way. However if you’re looking to make a ton of money there are better professions to consider IMO.

Out in the sunshine for another pressing session today and things are starting to get serious. Big numbers on each set and everything felt good.

    BTN Jerk 210×1 160x2x2 (paused)
    Log Press 165×3 150×3 133×3
    Incline Bench Press 150x3x3
    Seated DB Press 4×10
    Bent over Pressdowns 4×10

I really believe I’ll be good for a 230kg+ Jerk on the day. Some big numbers going overhead now.

Have you seen a physio for this diagnosis?

A trained professional seeing you in person for a few sessions would be the way to go here. Once you know exactly what the problem is you will be in a better position to address it and form a plan of action rehab wise.

Morning cardio done with a 40min walk then straight onto the bike for the following intervals:

    3×1’@520W w/5’ recovery

Getting better on these, definitely not as bad on these as I was before and the power pour out is feeling more consistent.

Hit the sauna and pool in the afternoon for some recovery work then off to Costco for the big shop.

Log press session tomorrow and we’re pushing the weight a bit
