Deadlift session at physique warehouse today. Back on some proper weights on the deads and it felt great. Everything felt super smooth and easy which is great.
Deadlift (ladder style) – 350×5
Block pulls – 350x2x5
Leg Extensions – 3×20Big session planned tomorrow with some heavy frame, sandbag loading and hopefully some proper stone carries if I can get the handles fixed into the stones before the session.

Yeah that’s a lot of caffeine.
Unless your a big human I don’t see the benefit in dosing it that high.

Another rest day today. Morning and evening walks totalling just under 4 miles.
Also got the rings sorted ready to go on my stones. Now just to find a drill bit up to the task of drilling into these rocks!
Very much looking forward to deadlifts tomorrow especially as I’ll be trying out the second prototype of the belt I’ve been working on for ages. It looks and feels awesome so far.

Set it up, give it a go and see what you think of it.
If it feels beneficial to you then great, if not then you know it’s not worth time time setting it up.

Much needed rest day today as I was feeling a bit beat up.
Caught up on my sleep, got my two walks in and cooked up some meals for the next couple of days.
Strength is feeling like it’s moving in the right direction which I’m very excited about. Getting my recovery in today and tomorrow then it’s time to pull from the floor again on Friday

Busy training day today. Had physio in the morning then straight off to the farm for events training followed by massage. Felt good hitting some heavy lifts again and I know my strength is in a good place when repping 180 and 210 stones feels easy.
Yoke – 400×20
Stone carry – 2x20m
Arm over arm – 3x15m
Atlas stones 210×3 180×10 -
Monday press session
Axle clean and press 143×3
Axle push press from rack 163×1
Viking press 180×10
Incline DB Press 3×12Great pressing session with plenty of work done. Back on the axle and the clean felt spot on. Press was snappy so I’m super excited about pushing this on over the next few weeks.
Viking press felt great compared to previous weeks, I changed my foot position and that seemed to make a big difference.

Rest day. Got morning and evening walks done and got some stuff done around the house.
Body is feeling good and ready for another training week.

What’s your diet looking like meal by meal when cutting to meet weight
Hahaha the last time cut weight for a competition was 2011. I’m in the open category

Saturday events session.
Back to full weight training today. Frame carry, stone carry and sandbags. I was due to also do some atlas stones but I dropped it to put some more volume into the sandbag as it’s a super important event for me.
Frame carry – 240x20m 280x20m 320x20m 360x20m
Stone carry – 2x20m
Sandbag – steeplechase 100×2 and 125×2 then multiple single pick up and carries with the 150 bag.I was having some issues on the pick up on the 125 bag sets hence the additional work on the 150 at the end. Moved over to using gloves which gives me a much better grip on the bags. Moving forward I’ll be doing more work on the bags on the Saturday session and keeping all my atlas stone work to Tuesdays

Final deload session done. Proper looking forward to shifting some proper weight tomorrow in events.
Deadlift (ladder style): 170×5 220×5 245×5
Block pulls 13”: 245x3x5
Hack squats: 250×10Got my evening walk done and now it’s time to get to sleep.

Second rest day today. Woke up and my body felt a lot better. I’m proper getting impatient to lift something heavy but I’ve got to complete this deload week as it’s needed for the long term success of this programme.
Dropped the stones off at the farm today. Had to brake pretty hard on the way there and I thought 400 kg of stones might end up in the cab next to me. That one would be tough to explain to the insurance people.
Just got in from my evening walk, had my last meal and I’m off to bed.

Went off to pick up some big rocks today so I have have my own set of carry stones much like the dinnie or nicol stones. Think I’m going to call them Bish’s Bollocks.
After a bit of searching (fortunately with some heavy machinery) we managed to find 124 and 140kg stones that I’ll attach the rings to and a 109kg stone that I also had as either a spare or to use as a pressing stone in the future.
No other training to report today.

I’ve just started to get into strongman and hoping to do first timers either this year or next year. Any advice on a good training split and diet set up please
Hi Becky
Awesome to hear! Do you have people that are training strongman at your gym already? If so learn as much from them as you can.
Your training split is dictated my numerous factors such as training age, time available, comp events, weaknesses etc so it’s tough to give you a “best training split”.
Most people starting out in strongman tend to train 4 times a week and go:
Squat including lower, pressing, deadlift and pull, events training. This tends to cover most things tbh.

Is this the only time you’re experiencing the foot cramps?
Hey Michaela thanks for the reply.
Yeah this is the only time I get foot cramps. It’s only on pendulum squats and sometimes calves. Nothing on RDLs, leg press, bb rows. [/quote]
I’m tempted to say it’s where you have to limit your feet sliding. I think you’re actively trying to grip with your feet on the calf raise and pendulum due to its angled foot plate. As the guys have stated there are some good show options. I’ll also throw into the ring using a pair of grip socks. I wear them for my deadlift sessions to give me a solid footing. They could give you a more solid base to lift from.
