Busy “rest” day for me today.

I really wanted to get the farm set up ready for Saturdays events as it’s always a pain in the arse having to set stuff up before I train. I just want to get there and get going.

Went and picked up some new rubber mats for the stone room and spent the day moving pallets of kit around, cutting mats to fit the top of the platforms and getting my new stones unwrapped and in the stone room.

Long old day but I’m happy I persevered with it as the stone room is all ready to go on Saturday. Can’t wait.

Have you tried other food sources post workout?

If you have a meal that you know sits well in your stomach that you consume at another point in the day try having that post workout to see if it is the food you are eating.

I know I would struggle with oats, milk and most wheys (only one I can handle is TBJP Iso Pro).

Sternum is proper beat up from yesterday’s axle cleans. Managed to get is settled before my session but there is still some residual soreness there.

    Box squats 205×5 215×5 230×5
    Deadlift 300×5 320×5 340×5
    SL step downs 3×12
    Back Ext w/atlas stone 100x3x5
    Rope arm over arm 4×5

Back on the deadlift bar which felt much more forgiving after my work on the stiff bar. I’m happy with how the pulls went considering I deadlifted 3 days ago.

Kicking off the BSM prep in style today. Back on the axle for the first time in around two years and it felt great. I’ve changed up my clean technique now that I have more of a chest to rest the barbell on and it feels way easier and more controlled compared to how I used to do it.

    Axle clean and press 115×5 122.5×5 130×5
Seated pin press w/green bands 90×5
    Incline Bench press 12/10/8/12
    Overhead rope ext 12/10/8/12
    Rope arm over arm 4×5

Added in the rope work to prepare for a rope hoist even we have at Brits. I’ll be doing a heavy arm over arm on events days but I want to condition my grip during the week as well.

Rest day today. Got some boring stuff done around the house and got some food cooked ready for the start of the week.

Can’t wait to get started tomorrow on the new programme, 9 weeks till BSM.

My training split is looking like this:

    M – Heavy press
    T – Heavy lower
    W – off
    T – off
    F – Assistance Press
    S – Events
    S – off

Last session of the off season done. Dropped the volume on pulls today as I deadlift again on Tuesday and I need to ensure I’m fresh for some heavy reps.

Just got a single set of 325×5 on the stiff bar deadlift then a set of 160×5 on the Pulldown. Completed the session with some open hand grip work.

After training I headed over to the farm and finished off the stone room in the container. Last couple of finishing touches to get it ready for events next Saturday. Can’t wait.

Solid enough press session today. Switched the BB incline for a machine incline as this pec issue is still not 100% yet. Seated presses felt strong and this is the heaviest I’ve been on these since my tricep tear.

    Incline Press 5×5
    Seated Db Press 60x5x5
    Pressdowns 5×5

Another rest day for me. Just out for a 2mile walk around lunch time with the dogs.

Got some meals prepped for the next couple of training days so I always have food ready to go. Let’s have a solid couple of sessions to finish this block off in style.

    Hi Ben.

TBJPs Unwind supplement would be my first port of call. I take it directly post training whatever time of day I’m training. Dream sleep would be another good option taken 30min before bed.

Limit caffeine intake prior to evening training sessions.

Get home, get showered and have your post training meal before going to bed. The carbs in that meal will help you get off to sleep.

Avoid scrolling through your phone post training and make sure your bedroom is a decent environment to promote sleep. Make sure it’s dark in there and that it’s the correct temperature.

Rest day today but had a really good sport psych call this morning with a new practitioner.

Focused on comp day thoughts and feelings for me and I made some big realisations on how I’m treating different events in terms of my mental preparation. Looking forward to putting into practice what I learnt today and seeing how it goes before our next session in two weeks

Kicked off today with my weekly physio session treating the usual areas. Then back to the Barn for my squat session:

    Squat – 215x5x5
    Seated leg curl – 135x5x5
Back ext w/ atlas stone 100x5x5

Then finished up with some open hand grip work. Got my pwo shake down my neck then straight off for massage. Busy day but feeling really strong again and the injuries seem to be behaving.

Kicked off the final week of this phase with a press session.

    Military press – 120x5x5
    Incline DB Press – 65x5x5
    Pressdowns – 30x5x5
    Overhead extensions – 3×15

Very good session with the military press feeling super easy. Lockouts were also feeling strong. I then finished the session with some grip work which I’ll be adding to every session moving forward.

Really good deadlift session today. Pulls felt effortless and all the sets looked identical which is a sign that my strength is in the right place. I have one more week on this phase before we move to contest prep and reintroduce the fun stuff – strongman events.

    Stiff bar Deadlifts – 265x5x10
    CG Pulldowns – 133x5x10
    Seated DB Curl – 25x5x10

Back in the gym today with a visit to physique warehouse. Got my pressing session done but took it easy on incline bench as I rehab this little injury. Seated DB felt really strong today.

    Incline Bench Press 100x5x10
    Seated DB Press 50x5x10
    Pressdowns 30x5x10

Back from a session on the bank fishing so limited internet access.

Had Wednesday and Thursday off as per usual. They operate as my “weekend” and give my body and mind a break from the strongman scene.

Got all my meals in as per usual but didn’t get much sleep last night as it was a successful fishing trip and I had three fish in the night. Got home and had a nap to catch up on sleep.

    Onto pressing tomorrow
