Great pressing session out in the sun today. One of the issues we face at WSM is log pressing outside with the sun and a moving sky which makes balancing an issue. Usually when lifting inside you can focus on a spot on the ceiling while in the rack position but when lifting outside this is near impossible.
Hopefully we have a run of good weather so I can get a few more sessions done outside. Still looking after the ACJ a bit but I’m confident I’ll be back lifting heavy overhead in two weeks time.
Log Strict Press 113x3x3
Incline Bench Press 150x3x3
Seated DB Press 4×10
Bent over Pressdowns 4×10 -
Do you think it’s possible for most people to work up to deadlifts of 3-400+ kg?
Which factor would you think is most important for reaching such an accomplishment? (genetics, training plan, higher body weight, PEDs..)Well first we have to define “most people” I guess. If looking at that literally then certainly not as the vast majority of the people on earth couldn’t pull 300kg+
I think we have become very desensitised to what is actually heavy these days. Obviously with the record at 500 suddenly 300 and 400 are seen as light which is crazy. Only a tiny percentage of people on the earth will pull 300+ or be capable of doing so.
I think the biggest factor is genetics. Certain body types and muscle fibre make ups are more suited to deadlifting large numbers. Height and limb length play a big role here. Having short arms in relation to your height is a big disadvantage.
I always like to work off of percentages and IMO Simone pulling 2.5 times their bodyweight is a strong deadlifter and very achievable for the majority of trained/athletic individuals

Recovery day today so no training.
Massage in the morning then a session with my Sports Psychologist in the afternoon. Chatted about a few things for the lead up to WSM, it was a productive session.
Finished up the day with a sauna session (which I’m getting used to now) and finally some time in the hot tub this evening.
Press session tomorrow and we’ll do the log pressing outside to better simulate WSM conditions.

If you give us some specific exercises you’re after the guys on here will be able to point you in the right direction.
For example I have a couple of coaching videos on my YouTube on the deadlift and squat…
If you’re after more specific isolated exercises let the guys know as there are plenty of pro athletes here who can help.

Because I’ve never met anyone who can lift big weights on a conventional deadlift with a small back.
But in all seriousness it’s like comparing a squat to a hack squat or leg press IMO.
The large multi joint exercise, such as the conventional deadlift, will produce a larger global stimulus for the body due to it being more stressful (you can handle more weight). This does not mean it is a replacement for the more isolated variations focused on hamstrings or erectors but they all have a place in a training programme at various points in the training year.
IMO the conventional deadlift from the floor is the best bang for your buck posterior chain exercise out there with benefits from the gastroc up to the trapezius. Will it alone build a complete posterior physique for competitive bodybuilding – certainly not but it will build a lot of muscle tissue when performed correctly with correct load.

Cracking session today. Filmed the whole thing for my YouTube so I think I’ll add some commentary over the top of it for you guys to see and get some insight into why I’m doing certain things.
Deadlift 337.5×5 (very easy)
Leg press 4×10 (420kg)
GHR 4×6
Back Extension 4×10
SSB Squat 145×20 -
Hi Adam do you do leg price on both deadloft days and squat days or just once a week? Thank you
Just once a week at the moment as deadlift is the focus. So I actually deadlift, leg press and squat all on the same day (today) in prep for WSM and the deadlift champs. No need to push my squat on at the moment.

Back on the wattbike today for another intervals session:
5×1’ @460-500W w/R4’
Hell of a quad pump again but definitely seeing improvements!
Back home then to give the truck a wash (which is pretty pointless as it will be dusty AF as soon as I drive it up our lane). She’s looking good for now though!
Great weekend of sport to watch. Obviously the rugby was disappointing as was the quality of the livestream for the Eddie vs Thor fight but the UFC London card was insanely good – I’m a big fan of how Aspinall handles business. Oh and F1 was decent today as well.
Heavy pulls tomorrow so watch this space ??

Volume session today which went well considering my body is a bit beat up from yesterday. All exercises were 4×10 @60% 1rm:
CG Pulldown
Seated SA cable Row
High incline DB CSR
Hammer strength chest press
DB lateral raise
DB Alt Curl
Long rope Pressdowns -
Great events session today.
When over to Surrey sports park which is about 20min from me to train power stairs on a set of concrete steps they have there and it worked perfectly.
Hit a couple of runs of 10 steps in a time of 22sec which is very good with the 200kg blocks.
Then back in the truck to head to the farm to finish off with some speed yoke runs with 320kg and some one motions with the 150kg stone to the high platform.
Sun shining and feeling strong – doesn’t get much better than that!

No training to report today but I had some jobs to do around the house and outbuildings which caused me to sweat a lot.
I also cleaned up some strongman kit for tomorrow’s training and loaded 440kg of plates into my truck ready for a little road trip. Moving 50kg plates about always sucks balls regardless of how strong you are.

More progress today on the pressing front. ACJ still sore on overhead movements but horizontal and incline pressing feels much improved. Managed to push the weights up on everything so moving in the right direction
Log strict press 92x3x4
Incline Bench 120x3x4
Seated DB Press (BFR) 4×15
Bent over Pressdowns (BFR) 4×15Finished up with some grip work using the nipple.

Tuesday’s session
Apologies for not posting this yesterday – my fat thumbs apparently failed to hit the post button!
Really happy with every aspect of my work yesterday – saw some good improvements from a busy day.
Got soft tissue work done in the morning which is helping with the muscles around my AC, always feel better after the massage but things are still tightening up 24h later.
Another wattbike session with a slight manipulation on the rest period which made the world of difference:
5×1’ efforts @460-500W with R4’Then off to the sauna and I’m getting better accustomed to the heat – had a bit of a stand off with some guy in there as there was no way I was leaving the heat before he did.
Back home for a dog walk in the sunshine then some cooking to finish the day.
Chalk me up for another day where I got better -
260mm measuring the piston rod if that makes sense?
I like it relatively upright as I have mobile ankles and I’m pretty lazy so don’t want to have to put on so many plates haha.

Speed work for deadlifts today. I’ve found that when I start ramping the weight up while training for a 1RM I can only do a heavy session once every two weeks so I incorporate speed pulls on the other weeks.
Still pulling on the stiff bar which is a proper bastard for speed work and really works the initial pull hard.Speed Deadlift 270x8x2
Leg Press 4×12
GHR 4×8
Back Extension 4×12
SSB Squat 1×20
