Everyone has different opinions on protein amount. I’m always of the opinion that covering bases and going high won’t do you any damage and I don’t think it needs increasing as you grow it can stay as a staple

Yeah man I totally agree I just worry about how much meat I’m gonna have to eat if I go to 400g of protein a day! ????

Jordan favours high protein diets. My protein is 350+ and I’m floating around 215lbs currently

Interesting to see all the different approaches. 350 is my max and I’m 261 right now.

    You’re 205lbs and shooting for 350g protein a day?

Too much imo. I’m guessing you’re a lean 205? I’d say 300 would be the upper limit and even that’s too much imo. The problem is if you do 350 now and let’s say you get to 225lbs doing that, when you want to go to 250lbs you’re going to need 400g which is what a pro bodybuilder would need. Imo shoot for 1- 1.5g per lb of LEAN body weight. So at 200lbs you’d need 250g a day and so on.

Think about Jordan and how big he is – he takes 500g of protein a day to build muscle on his 5’6 280lb frame. With all due respect I don’t believe you’re at that level so you won’t need as much – 280 and maybe 300 on training days is what I’d aim for.

assuming you’re not training too late (therefore not ingesting caffeine too late thus detrimental to sleep), not too much to say really other than sure probably a good idea for a nice ergogenic effect, if drinking the red bull just be wary of how it sits before training – for me any fizz (at all, not just pre wo) just bloats me, probably due to not drinking any at all

out of the 2 id opt with a good quality coffee ????

Hey Cameron. Usually both sit well with me and I train at around 6.30pm so not too late as you said before. Ok il stick to coffee as much as I can out of the 2 when I need it. Any recommendations of when to completely cut this stuff out? Say around 2 weeks out?

    Thanks

Assuming you’re doing a bodybuilding contest do you not have a prep coach?

Believe he suspected he had pneumonia, but then he collapsed after struggling to breath so guess it was heart failure?

Shame no matter which way he died. Steroid related, or not.

However, if you set yourself on fire, its probably best to not see how close you can get to the flames before being burnt again.

Especially not if you have dependents. That’s what’s been playing on my mind the last few months tbh. But i suppose like most until you have a health scare we assume we’re A-OK.

It plays on my mind too mate as I’m a new dad, all these bodybuilders dropping dead freaks me right out. I’m not a heavy user by any means but still..

Very sad news, some bodies can handle large amounts of drugs and have little complications health wise, then others can take small amounts and have a higher risk of becoming ill. I think we are lucky we have the services available to us today to be able to monitor our health and control our own variables.

I don’t think this matters one bit.

Matt porter monitored his health scrupulously like nobody else. Let’s not bury our heads in the sand here

    This sadly did not matter.

Wasn’t it due to pneumonia? [/quote]

    I read this too.

Historically he had some health issues with blood pressure causing his heart to fail in the past so I’m thinking a lot of his problems were steroid related although it seems a shame to make such speculation.

There are a lot of variables here but for me..
Off season – PPL all the way. Heavy training to get the mass on.
Pre contest I switch to a body part split for the simple fact that I know I’m not going to be setting any records when calories are lower and cardio is in place. So it’s still hard intense training but less focus on beating the log book. I know this goes against the grain with most on here but it’s a case of knowing what works for my own body and trying to stay injury free and it’s served me well when it comes to bodybuilding contests and making progress year on year.

I’ve done it both ways and saw no difference. Big Luke Sandoe said the same thing.
EAA definitely taste better and more bang for your buck.

apologies, how does a pr (record) differ to pb (best)? are they not interchangeable? if each is relative to the caloric intake then it is an equal measurement anyway

i think being of the opinion “when cals get low go with instinctive feel and contractions” is just, not even accepting it, but encouraging oneself to become mentally and physically weak, strength retention should be prioritised without detriment to execution, if load does need to be reduce then so be it, but don’t switch your style before that change needs to happen – as for contractions, these should just be standardised within training, not something you only start to focus on when you’re low on cals

as stevenson says, dance with the one that brought ya! 10 week cut *can* i still train for progress? 100% ????

There’s a huge difference between “encouraging oneself to become physically and mentally weak” – whatever that even means?! And preserving muscle tissue in a caloric deficit.

When you’ve walked the walk you will understand.

Like I said I prefer to pay attention to the body on a cut and go with the flow a bit more. In reality if you’ve held your size for a good while and it’s quality muscle and not just fluff then it shouldn’t just disappear and your joints will thank you.

If calories are low I’d say go with a more instinctive feel rather than hammering fuck out of yourself and ending up injured. If you feel strong and joints feel good etc then go heavy and If not maybe train at 80% of your max and focus more on contractions. I’m older than a lot of the guys on this site though so I need to preserve my body lol.
