So I’m about 3 weeks into my new cycle and everything is kicking in nicely now – beating my log book isn’t really an issue at all. In fact I’m getting to the point where everything feels almost easy – I call this invincible mode ???? (basically when the gear kicks in) – been at an all time high weight this week of 119.5kg fasted which is awesome for me. I’m knocking on the door of that 120kg now! Exciting Growth times. But this all comes down to consistency and doing the same shit day in. Day out.

It’s not really about the speed of the reps, you shouldnt focus on that. If anything you should do the opposite and see how slow you can move a heavy weight for reps. Then you’ll get big and strong. Fast reps are kinda wasted reps imo (in relation to bodybuilding/hypertrophy goals)

Hey mate , what’s the benefit of close feet leg press? Thinking of adding it in just don’t know the science

Hey buddy it’s just another way of hitting your legs via a slightly different stimulus. I personally feel if your feet are together and in the middle of the plate (not too high or low) then it targets the outer quad slightly more but still a full quad pump. Nice variation imo

Hey bud I have a powerlifting background, I was previously a British, European, and World powerlifting champion in the BDFPA and also held the British deadlift record.

I would suggest current style is good and still to keep 8-15 rep sets in your programme from a conditioning perspective but the bulk of work should really be periodised. This is because you want to get strong strong. But you can’t do 2-4 rep sets every session and recovery well. Powerlifters often train in blocks and at percentages of their one RM and rarely to absolute failure because the load is so heavy and tbh it’s just dangerous.

If you’re serious about it, I would look into some of the top powerlifting coaching and get a programme made for you bud. It will be 1000% worth the money whatever they charge because I can guarantee you’ll get much stronger than if you do it yourself with no experience of how to programme for powerlifting. Hope that helps mate. Nice lift and good luck!

Tbh it’s just guess work at the start of a programme – the more you do it the better you’ll get.
But then as you get through a programme you will then rely on the log book and that will tell you how much weight to take off and also when to put more on. (Ie when you reach the rep range limit it’s time to go up)

Keep the form as strict as you can bud. Get strong with that form. Takes a little longer but you’ll be better for it and also less likely to get injured.

Exactly my man. Tailor yourself to your audience and further your knowledge within that market. It would be foolish to cast your net and try to cover everyone as you’re selling both yourself and clients short. Don’t get me wrong, there are coaches who can and do it to great success but they’re the minority.
Yup, not hating food… yet. Give me a few more weeks haha.
I can imagine it is tough, but some find it easier as you’re both going through the same process. Personally, much better one at a time so have that extra help and selfish as it sounds, they can help keep real life ticking over. My ‘lucky’ OH does not live the lifestyle so it’s just me being a zombie and a pain in the ass haha.

Hello mate. Smashing the offseason and no sign of becoming a bloated, watery mess… yet. There’s still time ????
Keen on seeing your consolidated notes from the Mark Coles seminar. Spoke to an old school coach who literally keeps his clients to the same plan concepts he made twenty years ago, it’s nuts. Nobody knows everything, period. His reason – it works, why change it? Hate that mindset.
Hope alls well with you bud.

Hey mate thanks for the message dude trust me I’m trying to get fat ???????? I just can’t I’m sure when I’m post 40 my body will just say fuck you and pile it on lol
Yeah that approach is very dated and it’s actually insane how much I learned about further methods than I was aware of before – these were mainly for general population clients which I have less time working with but was still wholely valuable ????
    How are you bud?

Haha same. Remember being early twenties and you could consume anything with it getting converted straight to muscle. Those were the days.
Ah nice. A lot of coaches make the majority of their income from Basic Brenda and Day to day Dave rather than elite athletes. Nout wrong with that, just requires a slightly different approach yet some coaches try to push their elite training set ups and become frustrated when the client can’t or won’t put the work in, rather than tailoring to their client (which is the whole point of coaching right?) Plenty of average joes who can put the work in, but don’t aspire to compete though. Just enjoy the challenge and accountability.
Yeah all good my man, thanks for asking. 4 weeks post show and settling into the offseason nicely. Appetite is high but not food focused and lifts are going up quickly.
So obviously you’re competing next year, how about your missus? In a relationship, not sure if it’s more beneficial to have one prepping at a time or endure together. Both have their positives/negatives but what is your preference?

Very good point buddy – being an adaptable coach is a great thing and being able to change your stance based on what you see is gold.

Yeah appetite will be high from 8-12 weeks usually. Mine started sloping off around 9/10 weeks .

Prepping as a couple is tough man. We’ve done it twice and it’s deffo hard. Next time it will be just me though as she needs a longer off season to get ready for the pro ranks, which I think is going to be much better for the both of us 🙂

In all seriousness though volume plays a vital role in hypertrophy along with intensity and the balance of the two. His approach sounds very much like an RIR approach which will without a sound result in hypertrophy. The likelihood is the people he is training at the gym are gen pop and will respond to high volume as if they did low volume they probability aren’t actually that strong to be able to really illicit a huge response. Weight is weight at the end of the day. The heavier it is, the more ‘damaging’ effect it will have on the muscle fibres

Both low volume AND high volume approaches can get used to build muscle. Most on this platform prefer low volume purely because it’s just more damn fun to do! However I do appreciate volume training for what it is. Do I think it’s optimal? Personally, no.

hi Joe what’s cycle now then? in terms of your diet it interests me that you don’t opt for the pro/fat approach probably only one of a few that doesn’t. is there a reason for this pal?

Hey bud current cycle is in the ‘cycle section’ everything is on there

I’ve honestly just always got on very well with a ‘mixed approach’ my body loves carbs and I HATE having no car meals. Honestly hate it. So I just do what I am used to and I know what works. Didn’t do any no carb meals at all for the whole of my last prep.
